In this first set of articles celebrating the Best of 2010, we tip our hats to our favorite compilations. Here’s to all the great picks by the labels, DJs, and selectors across the globe, featuring our favorite genres in theme centered mixes and compilations. Head bopping, dance and club oriented genres, such as techno, drum’n'bass and dubstep continue to dominate these selections – these styles are best explored in a continuous progression form, where the evolution of the mix is the art-form itself. Individual 12? and digital EPs are compiled to give you a perfect cocktail, with all of the delicious ingredients, and an umbrella on top. If you are new to any of the genres covered, perhaps this is your chance for a taste. Salut, kanpai, and le’chájim!

The Dolls are casual low-key piano parts from Craig Armstrong accompanied by AGFs super relaxed voice and dubby beats from Vladislav Delay refined by AGF/Delays experimental yet professional production skills.

Their music may not be easily digestible for everyone but it certainly is a treasure for the adept. In my opinion their 2006 album The Dolls is a classic that has been widely overlooked, though unjustifiedly.

My favourite track is Collect the Blue.

It's taken an unusually long time to find this out, but our album The Shades of Jazz to Come was included on an "End of Year 15" list for 2009, as chosen by experimental composer and sound artist Marina Rosenfeld and avant-garde electroacoustic composer Raz Mesinai:

Her recent team-up with AGF has once again brought Gudrun Gut to mind as the legendary doyenne of Germany's experimental music scene. Some thirty years ago Gut was part of an early incarnation of Einstürzende Neubauten and shortly after founded her all-girl new wave group Malaria!, a band whose influence has lasted until this day, with Chicks on Speed turning the Malaria! song Kaltes Klares Wasser' into a top-ten hit in 2001.

Over her entire career Gudrun Gut has been on the look-out for new music styles, famously collaborating with artists like Blixa Bargeld, Klaus Schulze (as part of Din A Testbild), Anita Lane, and founding the open collaboration platform Ocean Club, whose members include Thomas Fehlmann, Sun Electric, Daniel Meteo and Chica Paula.

Since 1997 Gut further runs the productive Monika Enterprise label, successfully promoting a mainly female roster of artists, including Barbara Morgenstern, Masha Qrella and Cobra Killer.
