Gold: Greatest Hits, ★★★½.
Notes: A relic of my childhood and Disney channel, except I knew them through some cover band or something called A*Teens that went quickly by the wayside. Anyway, I have such an unabashed weakness for disco pop, but the majority of this album was pretty meh. I kept making unfavourable comparisons with The Bangles, which, yeah, different era completely, but whatever. This is my music journal, I am entitled to make whichever inaccurate assessments I choose. Some of the tracks were worth a listen, though, and I know that in one of those rare moments I have a desperate need for pop music in my life, I will appreciate this being in my collection. It'll also be one of those buffer albums that I can play around people who don't listen to pretentious hipster trash unlike me. …

According to Anthony Liekins Last.fm user tag cloud, this year I'm more or less into hip-hop, indie, rock, alternative, singer-songwriter, electronic, acoustic, jazz, blues, indie rock, underground hip-hop, funk, folk, classic rock, pop, soul, reggae, alternative rock, southern rock, post-punk, underground, chill, jazz hop, chillout, 60s, blues rock and trip-hop.

My number one favourites in 2010 are Blue Scholars, an underground hip-hop/indie duo from Seattle, United States. I'm totally amazed by their performance - marvelous melodic samples mixed with social and political urban delivery, themes I always have had evaluate. For example, see Back Home about necessity to bring back US troops from Iraq war and 50 Thousand Deep, which is concerned about Battle in Seattle, the historic protest in 1999, as thousands of activists arrive in Seattle, Washington in masses to protest the World Trade Organization Ministerial Conference of 1999.

1 Talking Heads - Remain in Light
(1981)
The musical transition that seemed to have just begun with Fear of Music came to fruition on Talking Heads' fourth album, Remain in Light. "I Zimbra" and "Life During Wartime" from the earlier album served as the blueprints for a disc on which the group explored African polyrhythms on a series of driving groove tracks, over which David Byrne chanted and sang his typically disconnected lyrics. Remain in Light had more words than any previous Heads record, but they counted for less than ever in the sweep of the music. The album's contrasts is noteworthy: the uptempo opening of "Born Under Punches" and the decidedly dark closing of "The Overload"; the poppy "Born Under Punches" and the cerebral "Seen and Not Seen"; the frantic pace of "The Great Curve" and the narcotic styling of "Listening Wind". …
