dememe If this is the start of your Onmyo-za collection then buying the Daizen box sounds like a very good idea for you then. ^___^
avril 2012 -
darkonyxswe Well, to be honest I don't own any CD from Onmyouza as of yet... so I wanted to begin with getting this enormous box with the older releases and then continue getting their later ones as time goes on... :D
avril 2012 -
dememe I think it depends how many albums/singles you have already and whether or not you really prefer boxset versions of albums, because in the Daizen box all the CDs are stored in a giant all-in-one cardboard slipcase not separate cases/slips. versions which can be awkward if you change discs often, the singles are on compilation discs and opening the box out each time just to get one CD can be a pain. Also as time goes on later releases will need to be bought separately so the Daizen boxset in time will only cover a portion of their releases and may be updated in a few years, plus everything in the box can still be found on sale which would include all the individual CD liner notes/pictures (but not the 1st press photobooks/boxes). That's the negatives, the positives are that you will be buying Onmy's back catalogue up until 2010 in JUST one purchase = awesome and you get a neat tshirt too!
avril 2012 -
darkonyxswe @Dememe: Well, in that price the shipping is already included (it's this item on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/350553489144?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649). What do you think? :)
avril 2012 -
dememe @darkonyxswe - That price sounds about right for a new sealed boxset, but not worth it if the shipping and import costs add too much on top.

Slamacques Only now am I taking the time to appreciate Makoto Dobashi's drumming on Kishibojin. He seems to mostly keep out of the way of the other members as opposed to Tora's frequent all-over-the-place-ness, but he really is pretty good. Oni kosae no uta in particular seems fairly sophisticated, I think. Another reason why it's such a great track.

dememe @ jesus2099 - Those five songs are all on my favourite list too. Onmyo-za album releases (since Kojin Rasetsu) have come in the two presses, the first press with the thick slipcase, CD jewelcase and photobook, and then the regular jewel case version, but in recent years the first press often sell out at some stores before the release date.
décembre 2011 -
jesus2099 OMG AYAKO 奇子 ! YAY that’s some tune, AYAKO! My other favourites all time are NUÉ 鵺 another OMFG song and MUMAENJŌ 組曲「義経」〜夢魔炎上 also SHINSHOKURINNÉ 浸食輪廻 and well TSUKUHIMÉ 月姫 if I shall only name 5, like the 5 fingers of my hand. — I received 鬼子母神 right now, the photobook this time is not very fantastic, the pics are dark you don’t see clearly and it looks like the standard booklet anyway. But a collection is either full 1st press or full standard, isn’t it? ;) Anyway seems like Onmyo-za’s fans here actually agree or have similar tastes. Now I like this new album.
décembre 2011 -
dememe @allbluedream - I am not feeling the flow of the album at the moment... : ( I don't think it's a matter of heavy because some of my favourite songs are Kuroneko ballads like Ayako or Hotaru for example. It's just the mid-tempo predictability of the songs that don't really go anywhere. I've listened to the album completely all the way through a few times and I feel the importance of the flow is there, but I'm not feeling it yet which is a pity since the whole album is a complete suite. I think a big problem is that I've been listening to the album whilst I have been fairly ill and my concentrative skills are really poor at the moment, so I'm hoping that I can wrap my head around the album as a whole and enjoy it as a complete piece soon. I'm also hoping the book will arrive soon too!
décembre 2011 -
allbluedream @dememe: "I've already found myself skipping the 12 or so minute Gekkou and Zakurotojubaku combo in the middle and Kouroi at the end as they are of the Onmyo-za style I enjoy least" I'm not skipping tracks, because I want to feel the story flow. However, I do like these songs a lot less than the heavier ones.
décembre 2011 -
dememe I have different feelings everytime I hear the album, but I've worked out that the more experimental tracks such as Samayoi and Kishibojin are my overall favourites and I wish the whole album was more along those lines. I like them so much that I'd happily put them up there with my favourites. I've already found myself skipping the 12 or so minute Gekkou and Zakurotojubaku combo in the middle and Kouroi at the end as they are of the Onmyo-za style I enjoy least and probably why since Matatabi has been writing so many of them from 2005 onwards is linked to my reduced positive feelings towards their recent albums. I much prefer to listen to their older albums where I could sit in a dark room with headphones on and be blown away by any song, but now the emotional connection with their music isn't as strong for me. I enjoy the albums they make now and I accept they have moved on and that's good but the deep emotional connection I used to make with their music isn't there now.
décembre 2011 -
allbluedream @Slamacques: Indeed. The real problem is that I don't understand much Japanese, so I only understand the sound, but not the "songs", to be exact. Anyway, this album is growing on me now.
décembre 2011 -
Slamacques @allbluedream: You're making it sound like you're the problem :) But how can it be good music if it requires you to read a book before being moved by it?
décembre 2011 -
Night-Raven1666 新アルバムはすごいですよ! ^_^
décembre 2011 -
allbluedream @Slamacques: "moving", that's word I'm looking for. I often have tears in my eyes when I listen to the ending of Kurozuka. Not to any tracks in this album yet. Perhaps I need to read the story some time.

SinSama Such a perfect band, Their new album is amazing <3
décembre 2011 -
Slamacques I, for one, welcome our new Kishibojin overlords. It's always exciting to hear bands I like try out new ways, and this album goes several ways at the same time. Most surprising is the sheer heaviness in some of the songs - even old Onmyo-za was more raw than truly heavy, I think. And this works pretty well! Makoto Dobashi isn't best enough to fill Tora's shoes, but he does a solid job. I'm looking forward to seeing his progress on future albums if he sticks around. Right now the one thing I'm not at all happy about is the abundance of synths; they should at least have used a different register than those ear-straining pseudo-violins. And then there's the loudness-war-affected mastering, but unfortunately that's been the industry standard for quite some time now. Also, I find the music catchy and epic, but not particularly moving. Oni kosae no uta, Kishibojin, and Michi are my instant favourites (in that order, I guess).
décembre 2011 -
min0ru For more i listening new album then more i relize that this is still Onmyo-za. I think that 10 径 Michi is best track too :) Cant throw main riff out of my head, so awesome!
décembre 2011 -
dememe I laughed to myself when I listened to track 10 径 because it was such a classic Onmyo-za song that I could guess how the song would go all the way through. Like, Matatabi vocal now....long note now. Kuroneko/Matatabi sing staccato quick now, Maneki GO! - Karukan GO! - Dueeellll!!! Two or three songs on the album really took me by surprise and I really love them. Still need to listen again, a really mixed bag. I'm waiting for the book that Matatabi wrote for the album to arrive....so maybe I can make more sense of the album then!
décembre 2011 -
dememe I've now had one listen on an iPod and I was a bit frustrated at the predictability of some of the vocal lines and the synths being a bit on the heavy side. Dobashi does an okay job, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss Tora. At the moment I don't feel surprised at all....I think it sounds like something is missing and the guitar solos I feel don't really do much for me.I'm planning on listening again using my good headphones and the CD player, so I will probably have a much better opinion later. But at the moment it's one of my least favourite albums, but since I don't think Onmyo-za have ever made a bad album, that really doesn't mean much!!
décembre 2011 -
min0ru Omg this band can really surprise you even after 10 years of existence. I was really surprised listening to new style. I think that new sound is like more adult and complete. Guitars sounds so powerfull tightly and dark O_O. That is what i dreamed about sometimes - more heavy sound and now looks like i get what i wanted :D I dont think this is bad thing that they tryed something new. Actually i think this is continue to something that was started in Chimimoryou album. I didnt liked it very much but i like new album. I dont mind if they will keep this style in furure albums or return to old one or even try something new :D The band is still alive, got fresh blood and new ideas, i hope this means that we will see many albums in future! For sure it is still Onmyo-za, just another side of it! Matatabi is genius!
décembre 2011 -
dememe The more the band move in this musical direction the more popular they seem to be becoming.
décembre 2011 -
allbluedream This is an interesting album. After going through it the first time, I have to say that the old Onmyo-za (before Garyo Tensei) is definitely not coming back. It is still Onmyo-za (apparently lyrics-wise), but the music is gradually losing its antique-japanese-ness, if you understand what I refer to. Right now I like Track 10 径 the best, but I have yet to listen to it more to make any reasonable comment.
décembre 2011 -
dememe @jesus2099 - I completely agree with what you wrote about Tora, it was a slow but steady exit after he dropped from being a full member and I guess his input and enthusiasm declined in the same way. I'm glad he is happy in his new band NESS where he can be very experimental ^_^. I'm so very very much looking forward to opening the new album. ONMYO-ZA yay! - listening to good music on the way to/from work is sure to be a good start/end to the day!
décembre 2011 -
jesus2099 After a second and third listen, well I like it very much now, more than previous album actually. (^_^) The second half (鬼子母人〜怨讐の果て〜径〜紅涙〜鬼哭) of the album is eventually brilliantly really cool ! About Tora, he sounded a bit bland in last album (金剛九尾) already, as if he had enough of Onmyo-za. This album was not really really good btw. I regret him but it really seem he had enough, unfortunately. I miss his creativity a lot. But this new album, now I really like it (now). So the album is indeed darker than usual (but sort of softer/lighter in the first half and good old Onmyo-za in the second half). It is very good imo that it is not ending this time by an upbeat matsuri pop song at all ! Now I can rip it and listen to it everyday when going to/from office with my big ear phones to love it more day by day : ONMYO-ZA, YAY ! \(^o^)y
décembre 2011 -
dememe I can't make a full judgement until I open the CD so I will have to wait. I have talked with other fans in Japan and the opinion there seems to be really really positive, and in my opinion ALL of Onmyo-za's works are high quality so even if the music isn't mindblowing it's still from my favourite band and I will still enjoy it.
décembre 2011 -
min0ru LoL, so different comments "but it's still DEFINITELY Onmyo-za" and "it sounds like other band imo, not Onmyouza". Now i'm really confused :D I dont want to listen samples because of waiting for cd. Anyway i think that any new style isn't bad thing. We already have 10 albums with very different types of songs and i think this is good time for some experements :) Can't wait to listen it by myself, personaly i like "symphonic metal" style somaybe i will like new album. And maybe they will return to old style in future albums or maybe try something new so please dont panic :D . Tora leave isn't big impact for me, but i can understand dememe. Can't even imagine if my favorite member (Kuroneko) will leave Onmyo-za T_T.
décembre 2011 -
dememe Like I said, I can't say the drumming is bad (haven't heard enough of it since the CD arrived and I'm not opening until Xmas day *lol*).....it's just not Tora and for me I will always be disappointed - can't help that. I mean I still feel amazed when I listen to the drums on Yoka Ninpocho. As much as I am a huge fan of the band over the last ten years plus my three favourite albums are Kikoku Tensho, Kojin Rasetsu and Mugen Hoyou the last of which came out in 2004 I think so it's been a long time since I've been really blown away by a new Onmyo-za album. I think after Mugen Hoyou the band's music lost a lot of it's earlier fire and raw passion and I think maybe after this album the band has maybe mellowed down again with the change of direction. That isn't a criticism, bands have to develop and move on and after the blow of losing Tora...I can't really feel as if this album could be the masterpiece I've been craving.
décembre 2011 -
jesus2099 鬼子母神’s support drummer 土橋誠 (DOBASHI Makoto) is, sorry, far less inspired than the regretted 斗羅 (Tora). But that is no surprise. He plays not bad but… maybe more plain standard, like other bands. Tora was such inventive in my opinion… the most gifted of the band with 瞬火 (Matatabi), it is such a pity he is gone. The first hal of the album is very different from 陰陽座’s usual style. I have to listen more to enjoy it more, maybe. After only one playthrough, maybe 組曲「鬼子母神」〜径 (“Michi”, 10th track ) is the one I like the most - I am not yet used to their new stuff. (^_^;)
décembre 2011 -
KibTH it sounds like other band imo, not Onmyouza, prefer old style.

dememe If you are asking me as a very big Tora fan.....I'll be honest and say that I can't help but be biased, but since I haven't heard the full album yet and won't until the CD arrives. I can't say much more except that I didn't have anything bad to say about the drumming from the samples I heard. But my bias isn't that bad because good drumming is good drumming even if you prefer someone else to play
décembre 2011 -
dememe I'll update that to near enough non-stop synths....
décembre 2011 -
dememe The new album really has a "modern" sound, I'm pretty crap at working out genres but I could hear the album is much less heavy metal but more symphonic metal with a few death metal beats thrown in there, lots of synths too. Not sure how to describe it but it's still DEFINITELY Onmyo-za, but I'm really really shocked that they have moved in this direction! I'm soooo looking forward to the CD arriving!! (If you want samples check out the 1.30 long samples of each song on the Japanese iTunes store)
