    8 juin 2009, 15h11m par E_INVALIDARG

Refrain of Memory
    • Choro Club Feat. Senoo

  • Estrenemos...

    2 mars 2009, 1h10m par knockergrowl

...con un meme. ¿Por qué no? Con uno que reza así:
Take your top 10 artist, and list:
    a) their first song you ever heard from them
    b) the song that made you love that artist
    c) your current favourite song
    d) your all-time favourite song

    Empecemos...

    65daysofstatic
    a) ÉcouterThe Big Afraid
    b) ÉcouterRetreat! Retreat!
    c) ÉcouterLittle Victories
    d) ÉcouterI Swallowed Hard, Like I Understood

    God Is an Astronaut
    a) ÉcouterThe End of the Beginning
    b) ÉcouterFragile
    c) ÉcouterNo Return
    d) ÉcouterSuicide by Star

    Modest Mouse
    a) ÉcouterThe World at Large
    b) ÉcouterFloat On
    c) ÉcouterMissed the Boat
    d) ÉcouterFloat On

    Explosions in the Sky
    a) ÉcouterMagic Hours
    b) ÉcouterTime Stops
    c) ÉcouterThe Birth And Death Of The Day

    Portugal. The Man
    a) A.K.A. M80 the Wolf
    b) Elephants
    c) The Bottom
    d) Dawn

    The Samuel Jackson Five
    a) ÉcouterSkinflick dress rehearsal
    b) If You Show Off The Milk, Who's Gonna Buy The Cow
    c) ÉcouterHow To Evade Your Obsessive Shadow

    Supergrass
    a) Pumping On Your Stereo
    b) ÉcouterTales Of Endurance (Parts 4, 5 & 6)
    c) Écouter345

    Mogwai
    a) Auto Rock
    b) Glasgow Mega-Snake
    c) The Sun Smells Too Loud
    d) Travel Is Dangerous

    M83
    a) ÉcouterFields, Shorelines And Hunters
    b) Car Chase Terror
    c) Écouter*
    d) Moon Child

Bonus: la banda sonora del Shadow of the Colossus.
    a) ÉcouterPrologue ~To the Ancient Land~
    b) ÉcouterRevived Power ~Battle with the Colossus~
    c) ÉcouterIn Awe of the Power ~Battle with the Colossus~
    d) ÉcouterThe Opened Way ~Battle with the Colossus~

  • Fen - The Malediction Fields + Waffle

    15 jan. 2009, 10h45m par Sarcastic_Smile

I can say with an element of sadness that the way I listen to music has changed over the years. No longer do I seem to be able to enjoy an album for what is it without objectively and critically analysing it and taking it to pieces. I've never listened to music for the emotional content (and even less so for the lyrics), no piece of music has ever really struck me on an emotionaI level with the possible exception of 大谷幸 (Kō Ōtani), can anyone say Revived Power? Music for me has always been a journey of images in my head spurned on by the music itself. I Look back at my top 15 black metal albums blog and realise that I bore those choices out of a pure new found joy of an unknown and fascinating genre of music. Despite that blog being hella old I really haven't heard much that I would add to it. It's like Christmas: it used to be immense and exciting, now it's passable and necessary. Not that I don't enjoy black metal anymore, I do, just not the way I used to.

Anyroad Fen's new one seems to be an exception to this rule. I don't know what it is about it specifically that I adore so much but Fen just seems to push all the right buttons. The raw yet epic guitar tone, the gutteral yet surprisingly audible vocals, the post-rock meanderings etc. I dunno, I just know that if hadn't arrogantly made my top 50 of 08 thing so early it would have appeared smack-bang at the top of it. Not only that, for once I don't care how original it is or indeed how good it's considered to be. Come to think of it it's due out tomorrow if I'm right so I suppose that means I've probably found the greatest album of 2009 before 2009 existed O.o What a world.

  • A few easy ways to determine if your bestest favoritest band is overrated on last.fm.

    7 déc. 2008, 10h42m par 0k0k0k0

Firstly, YHALOTHAR. last.fm = epic fail for messing with their own formatting stuff. Hence, the repost. Go figure.

    1. ‘surveys’, ‘top x questions/whatever’, ‘memes’, or other such material with similar ‘content’ infest the artist’s recent journals.

A transfer of symbols without a transfer of values, that’s what those ‘reading’ materials most signify. Boredom is no excuse for making trite observations about characteristics of so-and-so. At the very least there’s always the option of leaving the artist connections off for those who actually had something interesting to say. It’s almost always about original content. This journal is no different from the rest and that in itself should be a lesson for those who never knew better.

    2. one retard polluting the shoutbox is enough to ruin them.

Two kinds of one, actually, the fan and the ‘hater’. The ‘hater’ for being ‘obviously’ what s/he is, and the fantard for needlessly glorifying them. Especially the ones who refuse to acknowledge imperfection’s reality; it comes hand in hand with lacking the necessary faculties and/or willpower for incisive cogitation. E-snarkiness is not that hard to detect, especially the tired old ones. Most people are still new to this internet socialization thingamajig, most presumably. Or just poor judges of character anywhere.

    3. http://www.last.fm/charts .

Don’t delude yourself otherwise. A hundred thousand listeners give or take a few thousand spam scrobblers can’t be wrong. An unfunny example of emergent behavior in action. Besides, check the journal title. If you found yourself in this page from one of those listed there (how remote the possibility considering point 1) do the right thing and just accept the deal. And think about it, of course. Adroit observation of human behavior online and off helps. A lot.

    --

These only mean that for every grim and frostbitten band with only 666 listeners at least one of them’s bound to share the music with all the wrong sorts of people who more often than not will only repeat the process to offensive degrees until the label of ‘sellout’ emerges due to the number of so-called ‘fans’ who simply ‘don’t get it’. Children and men-children, the lot of them. Thus, EVERY artist is overrated on last.fm. A transfer of knowledge without a transfer of values. ‘not getting it’ and ‘getting it but disagreeing with it either in whole or in part’ are mutually exclusive principles, that much is obvious.

    ---
A realization of futility won’t dull resolve if prime intent is to rise above it.

Also, because my motives are nigh unfathomable. Today is a relatively short one.

And it’s that time of the year again. Get yourselves some presents.

  • This took a while

    29 oct. 2008, 9h44m par Marty256

    1. How did you get into no.29?
Ben Folds: Bought the self-titled BFF album in queensland in 2005 and wore it down. To this date, it's the only Ben Folds music i really dig.

    2. What's the first song you ever heard by no.22?
Troels B. Folmann: uhh...theme from TRL, i think.

    3. Whats your favorite lyric by no.33?
ÉcouterAlarm Call: "i'm no fucking buddhist, but this is enlightenment."

    4. How did you get into no.49?
Koda Kumi: whoa, KK is in my top 50? i can't remember how i started listening to her, through a forum i think.

    5. How many albums by no.13 do you own?
Beck: Guero, Sea Change and a burnt copy of Mellow Gold.

    6. What is your favorite song by no.50?
Nintendo: pretty broad artist. i've got the "Athletic" music from Yoshi's Island under that tag so i'll say that, because i can listen to it over and over again without tiring of it.

    7. Is there a song by no.39 that makes you sad?
Daft Punk: nah. although, Digital Love brings tears of joy when remembering the way we danced to it with alcohol in our blood and then trying to figure out the solo at jim's house

    8. What is your favorite song by no.15?
Song means music with words, so: Little Light of Love (it's still eric serra, just under a pseudonymn)

    9. What is your favorite song by no.5?
Death Cab for Cutie: Passenger Seat always gets me.

    10. Is there a song by no.6 that makes you happy?
Sufjan Stevens: yeah, they all make me happy, mostly. If i had to name one: The Tallest Man, The Broadest Shoulders....

    11. What is the worst song by no.40?
Harry Connick, Jr.: worst? hmm...well i don't really listen to most of the tracks on "She" very much.

    12. What is your favorite song by no.10?
Elliott Smith: man, that's hard. "Between the Bars" always kills me. But then there's also "Somebody That I Used To Know".

    13. What is a good memory you have involving no.30?
Hot Hot Heat: Hahah, jim dancing to "Pickin' It Up" when he was absolutely wasted.

    14. What is your favorite song by no.38?
Jeff Buckley: "Grace". No, wait..."Lover, You Should've Come Over". for the 'it's never over' bit that makes it leagues ahead of jamie cullum's take.

    15. Is there a song by no.19 that makes you happy?
Camille: "La jeune fille aux cheveux blancs" makes me happy for different reasons. but "Rue de Menilmontant" makes me 'happy' happy, it's good to sing whilst walking.

    16. Is there a song by no.25 that makes you sad?
    The Mars Volta: haha. nah.

    17. What is the first song you ever heard by 23?
Seussical: ok, i can't believe this is in my top 50 either. First song was "All The Thinks You Can Think".

    18. What's your favorite lyric by no.11?
ai otsuka: ai-chan...there's lots. though i guess it'd have to be the immortal "zutto, zutto, daisukidayo"

    19. Who is a favorite member of no.1?
The Seatbelts: Yoko Kanno, shit yeah. Although that's also disregarding the 'secondary' talents of Steve Conte, Tim Jensen and all of the international studio musicians (including the legendary pianist Mark Soskin from NY).

    20. Is there a song by no.14 that makes you happy?
Joe Hisaishi: i know it isn't formally his, but "La temps des cerises" is sublime.

    21. What is a good memory involving no.27?
i have three 25s and the last one before 28 is Jon Brion, so: i guess finding out about his music through Eternal Sunshine and then I Heart Huckabees. i love his voice.

    22. What is your favorite song by no.16?
Nobuo Uematsu: fuck, well there's a lot to choose from. I'm going to completely disregard the meaning of 'song' and say "Theme from FFVII"

    23. What is the first song you ever heard by no.47?
Go Shiina: something that i heard live at A Night in Fantasia last year but couldn't find afterwards. Apart from that, it'd be "To Deliver The Feelings" which they also played at that concert.

    24. What is your favorite album by no.18?
Belle and Sebastian: "The Life Pursuit". i really listened the shit out of those songs. If i had bought it on vinyl it would be unlistenable by now.

    25. What is your favorite song by no.21?
John Williams: seeing as he doesn't really write songs, i'll say my favourite PIECE is, of course, the timeless "Raiders March". although "Sayuri's Theme" comes close.

    26. What is the first song you ever heard by no.26?
Ben Folds Five: oh, so Ben Folds and BFF are two different pages. Well, the first song i heard by BFF was the first track on their first album..."Jackson Cannery". i'll never forget it. had me hooked from the intro.

    27. What is your favorite album by no.3?
Yoko Kanno: AAAHHHH they're all so good and different...man, so much choice. Maybe...GitS-SAC OST 1? i've listened to that the most. it's either that or Wolf's Rain OST 1. i'm not counting Seatbelts albums here.

    28. What is your favorite song by no.2?
Akira Yamaoka: haha, song? well, adhering to the criteria, it'd be "You're Not Here". non-song wise though, it'd probably be...hmm..."Ordinary Vanity" or "Betrayal" for atmosphericality, and "Breeze of Monochrome Night" or "Magdalene" for musicality.

    29. What was the first song you ever heard by no.32?
Maaya Sakamoto: probably the first time i popped her album "Nikopachi" into itunes, which would make the song "Yoake no OCTAVE". the first song i really like was probably "Kimidori" though.

    30. What is you favorite song by no.8?
Simon & Garfunkel: again, there's a lot..."America" tops everything though.

    31. How many times have you seen no.17 live?
Jamie Cullum: bah, i missed him when he came to Aus...i suck at seeing big acts live.

    32. Is there a song by no.44 that makes you happy?
YUKI KAJIURA: nah, not really. "Kirei no Kanjou" makes me relaxed, i guess that's a happy emotion. oh, wait - "Romance", the accordion solo in that makes me feel awesome.

    33. How did you get into no.12?
Phoenix: i heard "Too Young" on Lost in Translation and then bought their album 'United' on impulse, and i never looked back.

    34. What is the worst song by no.45?
Ilaria Graziano: the word 'worst' doesn't come to mind when thinking of Ilaria. But i never really listen to that "dew" song, or "Perdeski cloyn".

    35. What was the first song you ever heard by no.34?
Herbie Hancock: "Watermelon Man", when my piano teacher played it to me. my first jazz standard....

    36. What was the first song you ever heard by no.48?
Kevin Shields: "City Girl". actually...whatever track of his comes first in Lost in Translation. it is city girl i think. Yeah.

    37. How many times have you seen no.42 live?
Christophe Heral: usually he's too godlike to be seen in the public eye. although i have seen him on that awesome video of him and Michel Ancel beatboxing at the PLAY games concert. man, that video rocks.

    38. What is your favorite song by no.36?
Air: Nowadays, it's "Playground Love". it used to be "La Femme d'Argent" but i overkilled it.

    39. What was the first song you ever heard by no.28?
Shena Ringo: man, Ringo's 28th?? the first song of her solo career i ever heard was probably "Kyogenshou", which was probably a bad song to hear first & make somewhat of a judgement from. Still, i ended up really liking that song.

    40. What is your favorite album by no.7?
Tokyo Jihen: ah, now Jihen...i heard "Adult" first and that's great, but "Kyoiku" is the pinnacle.

    41. Is there a song by no.31 that makes you happy?
Utada Hikaru: yeah, there's a few. these days they tend to make me sad no matter what the mood of the song is though.

    42. What is your favorite album by no.41?
Rilo Kiley: "More Adventurous", definitely. the only full album i've got of theirs i think.

    43. What is your favorite song by no.24?
Architecture in Helsinki: "Do The Whirlwind"...always brings back good 2006 memories. "Heart It Races" also rocks, albeit the overkill it's recieved.

    44. What is a good memory you have involving no.46?
Gabriela Robin: memory? hmm...probably trying to work out some of her 'giblish' lyrics, like the ones in "Chicken Bone".

    45. What is your favorite song by no.35?
The Beatles: ah, crap..."Golden Slumbers"? or, "Strawberry Fields Forever", if it wasn't so fucking overkilled by year 12 solo. actually, wait, scratch all that - "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" is the best. no wait..."Let it Be". the original. FUCK

    46. Is there a song by no.9 that makes you happy?
Kow Otani: um, nah, they're all pretty sad/mystical.

    47. What is your favorite album by no.4?
Supergrass: yeah, that's difficult. "In It For The Money" has all the great tracks on it so it's probably the favourite, though i really wore down "I Should Coco".

    48. Who is your favorite member of no.37?
The Thrills: don't really know. the singer, whoever he is.

    49. What is the first song you ever heard by no.43?
Yann Tiersen: i can't remember whether i saw Amelie or Goodbye Lenin first, but i'm banking on GL, so the first song i would've heard was "Summer '78".

    50. What is your favorite song by no.20?
The Postal Service: mm, such an oldschool band. i loved "Brand New Colony".
