Worst Bass?

Most generic rock bands I've ever heard.

They're hardly generic ;)

Not my cup of tea though.

And besides, I preffer coffee.

The really amusing thing is, when Sid Vicious joined the band, he sucked so bad that, for studio recordings, they recorded the bass tracks seperately. And they never told him. *laughs* I find that very amusing.

The only other band that I could think of that has really pointless (dare I say, non-existant) bass is The White Stripes. Sure, "Seven Nation Army" and "Blue Orchid" sound awesome on bass, but the songs themselves have none. Which seems stupid to me. But that could just be me.

uhm, The White Stripes don't actually have a bass player. or uhm... did you know that? wait I'm confused again. oh well.

True, but I think in a few songs a few songs a bass could be used. The White Stripes are really cool though.
Anyway, my kind of Rock is the kind where you actually have a cool bassline. Like RHCP, Flea may just be the best Bassist alive today. And if you listen to quite a few Rage Against the Machine Songs, their bass lines tend to be really cool, like Wake Up, and thr Intro to Bombtrack.
What really drives me up the wall though, is bands liek H.I.M and Fall Out Boy (PONCES!) where all their bassists do is play teh root note of the power chord/chord the guitarist is playing, it's incredably boring! I had soemone say to me once, that Pete Wentz (Fall Out Boy) was the best bassist in teh world, I just told her, just because he's a pretty boy, doesn't mean he's any good on the bass.

AC/DC

I agree with henchmanofsanta, AC/DC has really boring basslines. Foo Fighters and the Sex Pistols also suffer from this problem. The worst bass from bands today has to be all those Fall Out Boy/Panic! at the Disco style bands, but these aren't otherwise good bands haha.

RADIOHEAD. Period. The bass isn't totally lacking, just kinda boring. One of the best bands ever though.

The thing is, the basslines aren't innovative at all. Think of it this way: has it changed the way most bassists think and play, or has it set a new standard or something? The way I see it, I would barely notice if the bass was simply removed in some of the songs. Some songs have cool licks, like Paranoid Android, National Anthem, and A Punch Up, but they never get past that stage.

Yeah, but it's not only a matter of influencing people; when I started out I was influence by shitty bands with a terrible bassist because I was stupid back then. To be innovative you have to do stuff others haven't already done, and there's nothing I can think about Colin Greenwood that hasn't been done before.
