Veggie for 2 years. Or maybe more because I never really liked meat.

But I don't think I'd become vegan, I love cookies too much for that! hehe

Nothing says vegans can't eat cookies :) The best cookies I've ever had were vegan.

I've been vegetarian for ten years now and vegan for a little over one year.

    Hi,

I've been a vegetarian for 5 years now,
and I'll go vegan as soon as a leave home..

Everyone has so much to say, they talk, talk, talk their lives away...
  • I've been veggie for 9 years, and would consider going vegan if my love for dairy products wasn't so strong!!

Should I stay or should I go?
  • I'd recommend then finding a penchant for dairy substitutes.

laktoovo- and lakto-vegetatian for three years, then vegan for 6 and a half.

for those who would like to become vegans but don't think you can do without some product, try to switch to substitutes a little at a time, perhaps bake with dairy free butter or oil, then soy/oat/rice-milk, then use soymilk in porridge instead, then begin to have dairy free butter on sandwitched, try vegan soft cheeze, look up two types of bread that is vegan, try vegan ice-creame etc. etc. Once having gotten used to it it is not much of a sacrifice really, and if it is only cheeze or cookies that is the problem, why not become "cheeze-vegan" or "dairycookie-vegan" (compare lakto-ovo-vegetarian)

You have good suggestions there viska333, but sadly there are close to zero subsitudes here in my hometown to diary free butters, milks and other products.

Vegetarian for 3 and half years.

i'm sure you can get margarine and soy milk! or insted of butter you could use oils (olive specially!)

the only thing i'd worry in estonia about is Vitamin D

    :)

    Spain sucks too!

Vegetarian for two years, and loves ice cream too much to become a vegan. Even though it makes her stomach hurt when she eats it.

  • But candybar, vegan ice cream exists :0

    It tastes ghastly, though.

Or meat-vegan? Always vegan, except the moment where one is eating a steak?

I don't really think that works out.

Toastedcandybar: This might sound obvious but I suggest you give different brands or flavours a shot. Some of the vegan ice creams available where I live taste pretty much like frozen soya flour but there are a couple that are by far superior to most dairy ice creams. (I'd give you tips but I don't think that Finnish, Swedish or Estonian ice creams are widely available in the US.)

Toastedcandybar: There is an awesome non-dairy ice "cream" in the US called "Soy Delicious". I ate a pint of it today (I had a coupon :) )

    I've been vegetarian since October.

Oh and someone said they were having a hard time cooking tofu. I'm not too well "versed" as a cook, but I found something to do with tofu that is super easy and yummy. I just get some plain tofu, slice it up, chop up some eggplant (can also add zucchini), throw it all in a steamer.... When it's cooked you can either put it on top of rice or eat without rice. Then add a little sesame oil and soy sauce. I love that.

    That's my story.

    tyrannicida:
I did not mean that they should go around calling themselves cheeze-vegans, thus the "", I only wanted to say that not being able to abstain from cheeze is no reason to drink milk, eat eggs etc. It is not about the "title" after all, it is about doing what you can to reduce demand for animal products, and then having a vegan diet, except for some cheeze now and then is better than being lakto(ovo)vegetarian.

veggie for 20 years now - but with one year of cheating (at the age of 10 or 11... i didn't understand why my parents wouldn't let me eat meat 'cause they never explained it to me. eventually i started thinking myself and became a "real" vegetarian when i was 11). now i've stopped eating milk products and am slowly becoming vegan. it's kinda hard though, i'm barely at home during the day and don't have the time to cook.

  • vegetarian: 17 years
    vegan: 6 years

basically being vegan too me is just a more absolute/pure form of vegetarianism.

  • veg for a little over a year and a half.

  • lacto-ovo vegetarian for 15 years...

I prepare a tofu dish that even the most "devout" carnivore has eaten, and liked.

If you can get past the smell of firm tofu...cube it 1.25 cm, cook in olive oil. Cook off the water; add soy sauce or equivelant, and brown...

I agree with SonicWalker's assessment of being a vegan. That is a helluva committment...very cool!
