I'll copy the first post, and general problem:

5G 60GB iPod destroys right earphone

Got an iPod in December. Very shiny, very nice.

After a week, the right bud of the earphones Apple provided suddenly died. Slight annoyance, but not a problem; I used my Sony earphones instead.

Ten days later, the right earpiece started to crackle, and proceeded to stop working at all. Rather more annoying, but they were old earphones after all.

Bought myself a shiny new pair of £30 ambient-noise-reducing earphones with the vaguely surgical-seeming rubber ear pieces. Barely five days had passed when, yes, the right-hand half of the new headphones failed between one track and the next.

Now, they say that once is happenstance, twice is coincidence and three times is enemy action, so... anyone else suffered/heard of this problem? Apple were singularly unforthcoming when I phoned then, but did at least offer a free pair of bog-standard earphones (for my iPod to consume, no doubt)

Now I'm thinking of buying an iPod, but with $400 Bose headphones, I'm wondering if I should risk it. Has anyone had a problem at all like this? There are 11 pages of posts on that website from people with that problem..

I haven't heard anything like that. I never used the standard Apple headphones and just used my $10 headphones from Wal-Mart. And I haven't had a problem.

  • I havent had any problems. If you dont want to risk runing your headphones, either make sure that the sound check is off on the iPod, and that the volume adjustment is set to 0% on your songs within your library. You could just keep the volume down on your iPod, but i wouldnt worry, if your worried about wrecking your headphones, then test your iPod with a cheap pair first.

Thats so weird. I actually have been having a similar problem for over a month now. Instead of just cutting out, the right ear crackles and goes in and out occasionally. But it never stays out and its always random. I wonder why its always the right ear. Sorry I'm not much help, but I just thought I'd let you know that you're not the only one. Best of luck!

Three pairs have done this now.. sigh..

I have had three different pairs of earbuds lose sound in the right side only. Two pairs were ipod branded, and one sony. No I am not sure what I am going to do. I do not want to buy any more headphones if they are going to go out after a few months.

A friend of mine has that problem with her 2nd Gen 4GB Nano, except it's the left side that goes instead of the right. I didn't think that other people had a similar problem.
