The Wire Top 2008

  • The Wire Top 2008

so, The Wire published their top albums of 2008 in the latest issue of the magazine. anybody have any comments/thoughts about the list?

I think it was a far more interesting list than the one for 2007, with more variation and less predictable top 10.

  • Well, on the one hand I got to know things like Toumani Diabate (No. 39) on the other hand I just don't know why boring records like Vampire Weekend or Tricky are mentioned. All in all the list is okay, but there's a lot I wouldn't have included (like Mark Stewart). And James Blackshaw's „Litany Of Echoes“ is missing!

  • Compared to Jack Rose or Sir Richard Bishop (not to mention the pioneers), James Blackshaw is quite immature, depthless and conventional! Maybe a few moments of The Cloud Of Unknowing excepted...

As for me i think that releases from The Bug and Hercules & Love Affair is simply highly overrated and nothing more than hype.
For me Wire definitely one of the most competent magazine but i`ve got no idea what they found in London Zoo that takes that album to first place.
