The WIRE: The best music magazine?

We all know that adjectives like 'best' or 'insuperable' are all relative, specially talking about music or music critique, but with WIRE this words possibly makes sense. Founded in London by Anthony Wood in 1982 and now with a roster of great music lovers, critics -like the ol'master Simon Reynolds- and musicians, beautiful 'helvetique' design and superb photography, this magazine is the only one you can read cover to cover, every issue -even if talks about music you don't like-.

reviews jazz, improv, experimental, avant rock, dub, 'critical' beats, hip hop, outer limits, reissues, compilations and unusual formats.

Most other magazines simply 'mention' experimental artists and/or ridicule them.
Long live The Wire in all its glory.
Especially appreciated last issue's Whitehouse interview - that was the most necessary interview i'd seen in a long time.

  • The Wire Magazine is amazing. When you think that you know something about modern music, you read The Wire and discover that your knowledge is about to zero.

If you develop an ear for sounds that are musical it is like developing an ego. You begin to refuse sounds that are not musical and that way cut yourself off from a good deal of experience. ~John Cage
