    Polish Composers...

I wouldnt class myself as fully educated in classical music but I think I know my stuff a bit! But I can not name any other Polish composers apart from Chopin. Who I adore.

What others are there? And is there work like Chopin's or completly different?

    It will be hard...

    -Henryk Wieniawski
    -Stanislaw Moniuszko
    -Zygmunt Noskowski
    they were the most important

Chopin was a prominent personality and it's very hard to find sth similar to his works. However, it's a big pleasure to promote my polish composers :)

thank you staszka and Gamester. I have heard a bit of Henryk Wieniawski and really enjoyed it. I will try research the other 2. I think I have heard something by Stanislaw Moniuszko, the name sounds familier. Thank you very much! :D

There is Theodor Leschetizky (1830-1915), famed mostly for his piano pieces and for teaching so many of the next generation of pianists.

    Leschetizky: Piano Works

You might want to try one of his students, Ignacy Jan Paderewski (1860-1941). Particularly his Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 17 and his Symphony in B minor (Polonia), Op. 24. While considered a 20th Century composer, his work has more than a hint of Romanticism about it.

    Krzysztof Penderecki.

Let's see if you like it. ;-)
His second violin concerto played by Anne-Sophie Mutter can also be found on youtube.

I really like Penderecki. Too bad he is too modern to fit the group... Oh well; can't have 'em all.

Juliusz Zarębski wrote a great piano quintet, give it a try. And another important composer, not mentioned before: Władysław Żeleński.

    Penderecki is so gloomy...
