Rivulets is the project of nominal singer-songwriter Nathan Amundson. Whelped in Colorado, Amundson was reared in the stony cold tundras of Alaska before gnawing through his steel leg-hold trap at age 16 and moving compulsively throughout the United States, his least favorite country. He started performing as Rivulets in 1999 while “living” in Minnesota and currently drives, eats, and sleeps in Chicago, Illinois, from which he perpetually dreams of escaping. His self-titled debut album was issued by Chair Kickers’ Union, the Duluth, MN, label run by the veteran slowcore outfit Low.

Often driven only by voice or quiet guitar, Rivulets was frighteningly gentle, yet genuinely powerful. The brooding love songs of Mark Kozelek’s Red House Painters were an apt comparison, as were the acute, windswept soundscapes of Iceland’s Sigur Rós. Most often, the music suggested the isolation and odd beauty found at the center of an iced-over lake in the middle of winter. Rivulets’ spare sound was also augmented at times by various musicians, including Low principals Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker. Between ‘99 and 2004, Rivulets issued a series of CD EPs, and contributed to numerous compilations. Two full-length albums appeared through Chair Kickers’ Union, 2002’s self-titled effort and “Debridement” a year later.

Rivulets’ third album “You Are My Home” was released Stateside by Important Records in 2007, and in Europe and Asia by O Rosa Records in 2008.

The Blue Buildings Are Burning: The Early Demos of Mars Field. Dear all: If you are interested, I've just put up on Bandcamp a free 9-song compilation of our early demos.
