I´m Heiko from Hamburg (Germany), organizing (punkrock) concerts and tours and I´m broadcasting a Punkrock Radio Show 4 times a month...
I did a two 2 hours special about women in punkrock from the seventies till now - very interesting, great music, especially the riot girrrl "movement"... that´s why I´m here :-)

  • Hi! My name is Trisha and I was born in the UK but I live in Perth, Western Australia. I found this group via your journal entry where you announced you had made it. And I joined because I like girls who make loud noises with their musical instruments, and while Riot Girrrl isn't my favourite kind of music, there are certain artists who are classed in this category who I adore, namely Hole I guess. The early Hole stuff is just awesome.

  • Hi, I'm Blaise :) I'm 18 from Reading, England. I found this group when I came across grrrlriot's profile whilst browsing through people on my neighbours list. I joined because I absolutely adore riot grrrl, and hopefully I'll meet some great people here or learn of some new female fronted bands.

Hey, my name's Josh. I'm from Hot Springs Arkansas USA AKA Clintonville. I'm 20 years old and a College student.

I've always liked female bands ever since I can remember, simply because of the fact there aren't enough women in rock music. Whatever rock scene, and however it's being shown women are never there and if they are they aren't on the forefront of it.

I always sort of grew up having feminist types of ideas...though I didn't know there was a word for it at the time. I feel sorta proud of this because getting older I noticed it's sorta politically correct for a guy to be ok with feminism. Or whatever. I just knew seeing such strict gender roles as a little kid made uncomfortable. It still does.

In riot grrrl they're not setting back and being pretty and singing pop music as women are stereotyped to do, they're in your face and telling you about sexism they've faced in a music style they're treated like they don't belong in. It's simply awesome.

Also, I grew up loving Nirvana a whole lot.

    Hi,

I'm Asena from Izmir, Turkey. I came across this group's link (from Greta) in my shoutbox. I joined this group, because riot grrrl movement was one my biggest influences. I believe in female effects on music and find them powerful to make differences in thoughts. Also, most of those bands are my heroines.. I think female bands give these ideas directly, freedom and self-confidence, they have the right energy and that energy is precious..

    hello.
I'm Jo from the USA, living in the state of California. I'm 20 years old and I have a year and a half kid. I believe the first riot grrrl band I've heard was Bikini Kill (surprise surprise) when I was like 15-16 years and they are still a favorite of mind. I've heard girl bands or girls in bands before, of course. But no close to as vibrant as Bikini Kill.

I love all of Kathleen Hanna's music. I'm into lots of music, other than riot grrl. I like anarcho punk, crust, grindcore, all of those punk genres. Indie pop/rock, progressive hip hop, oldies, folk, anti-folk, etc etc. I dare not go on!

I love anything DIY, alternative, zines, weirdos, drawing, singing in the shower, public libraries, activism, and learning all kinds of new stuff.

Check out my own Last.fm page, I have myspace (another surprise!) and livejournal, so ask me about those.

    Love.
    jo

  • Hello.

I'm Robert; I live in Arkansas, I live in Arkansas, and it's hell being the only queer, feminist not-protestant around. :/

I'm a regular poster on Greta's riotgrrrl board. I found out about this group through that, or something from Greta.

  • Hola
Caitlin, 18, live in southern Cali.
I joined because, well, I love the riot grrrl scene. I'm in a band with 3 other chicks who believe in the concepts and culture with a passion. I found the site one day just looking for information :)
    RIP S-K

  • I've been wanting to go to Hamburg for quite a while. A lot of people told me it's really nice there.

The only German city I've been so far is Bonn - I liked it there. It's quite a melancholic looking city (it's all grey) but the people were nice.
