This question could have two meanings, which makes it difficult(impossible?) to answer. Who was the most influential to you personally or on the scene as a whole? And then it could go even deeper as to say that a person or group that was influential might not have been punks in anyway, maybe precursors, or inspirations to the movement itself.

For me persoanlly, the man in punk rock who has influenced me immensely was Joe Strummer. The way he wrote, the way he lived, the way he thought, he amazed me time and again.

Other bands have inlfuenced me greater I believe, with more politically charged lyrics or what have you, but, he was one of the first and has stuck with me the longest.

Despite Henry Rollins being painfully overrated, I agree with your list. How about Greg Graffin and Brett Gurewitz...

    SPOT THE IRONY!

Rollins wasn't even with Black Flag when they were tolerable (not good). The day he writes a song remotely comparable to the works of the aforementioned members of BR, I'll shut my mouth.

Bad Religion may have better lyrics, content-wise, but Black Flag is forever superior musically. actually, Flag's lyrics are always more fun and sing-a-long-able, and they didn't stick around over ten years past their prime just to put out mediocre, preachy records.

  • Henry Rollins is a fucking asshole. He may be influential I suppose but he's a fucking dick.
