    LPs CDs and MP3s

I'm guessing that as a group we still have a lot of music on LPs.
I haven't bought an LP for over 10 years now and I haven't played one since I tried to rip Futurama by Be Bop Deluxe to MP3.
All my LPs are in the attic now - replaced by CDs and MP3s - and will be going on EBay later this year.
    Is it worth keeping them?

    YES, YES, YES

Neil Young used to say that music on cd is like a frog kept in alcohol, "it lasts for ever but there is no life in it",so is nice some times to blow of the dust of your vinyl records and listen the good oldfashioned way, but, music on bytes on the computer is also good 'cos this way we can meet and talk to each other about it.

“It’s a hallmark of adulthood that our options diminish as our faculties for choice increase…”

Yea, I think about Neil's clever comment everytime I have to walk across the room to crank my victrola

Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results since 1962.

Hey, I still listen to some of my dad's old 78s - stuff that I've never seen on cd.

Only hassle is that you have to get up every 3 minutes to change over to the next disk when you're listening to a symphony.

  • That's what I'm saying

    You thought I was kidding?

Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results since 1962.
  • Yeah I understood, but cranking's fine; I was just emphasising the point that everything stops while you have to do the 3-minute change-over.

    And that sucks!

Yeah that's why I keep my walker next to couch so it's right there when I have to get up and flip over the record...! Hell that's part of the enjoyment.

    I won't sell any of my LP's, they're too precious! :-)

I sold all my LPs 10 years ago (150 of them for about £150 job lot). I sort of regret that because subsequently I discovered that a couple of them were worth £300 each. But overall it was good to send them to a new home who will appreciate them. I never listened to Long Players because of the jumps and crackles. ... .... So ... ... If you love listening to music listen to CDs. If you just like collecting music (and of course the 3 minute ritual) then buy LPs.

  • Sorry mozzmozz, but there's a lot to be said for the rich sound of vinyl!
