Description :
For all Fans of the 1995 David Bowie Album "1. Outside" who are still waiting for the follow-up. Let´s gather some similar sounds.

In 1996, shortly after the release of "Outside", considered by Bowie´s fans as one of, if not the most outstanding Bowie album ever, Bowie announced that lots of more material had been recorded during the Outside-Sessions with reeves Gabrels and Brian Eno, which should be released within a follow-up album titled "2. Contamination". Temporarily, even a third follow-up was in discussion, but with the release of "Earthling" in 1997 the progress on Outside stalled. Until now, Bowie has confirmed several times to take up work on "2. contamination" again, but so far nothing has been released from the more than 25 hours of Outside Tapes.

Now, more and more artists come up with experimental, dark ambient, drone and droom metal style concept albums with off-chords and industrial-style samples that bear some resemblance to the 1995 works of Bowie, Eno and Gabrels. Artists such as Johnny Hollow, Tenesmus and Nadja could be of some interest to Outside fans. If you have more suggestions, please let us know !

Interesting analysis here of esoteric symbolism relating to Outside: http://www.parareligion.ch/2010/bowiegrail.htm People who think this album is just a jumble of randomness with no purpose ought to read that.

    (I) recently spoke with Reeves Gabrels about Outside and he told me that the original form of the record, which was totally improvised was in his opinion one of the most outstanding musical work ever recorded. He told me that he would edit and mix the original sessions at any time and offered himself years ago to do so to David, but he wasn't interested anymore.

Back in 1995 when 1.Outside was released, most critics seemed to be quite confused. Often they wrote things like: "Sure this is the best Bowie album in 15 years but..." Things have changed in 15 years though. Nowadays it seems that 1.Outside is an album that people seem to either love or hate. Personally I think it's one of the very best albums he has recorded, maybe the best.

Been absent for a couple of weeks, been to France (Hellfest 2009 - absolutely great Metal festival !!!!) and to some dark corners of my mind .... Great to see so many new followers to our little sect (in fact, it is, isnt´t it? At least, DB made us all addicts to his works!) Just keep dropping by from time to time, and leave us a shout if you´re up to something new about DB , Outside or whatever related stuff ! Cool movie: City of Ghosts with Matt Dillon and Gerard Depardieu. Anyways, Cambodia is a cool place to be !!! Very Outside-esque atmosphere, raw, exciting, natural, strange ! Been there three times already, and still I´m longing for the next opportunity to go.

In 2003, a Bowiefan started to upload some mp3s that were taken from a tape from the recording session of Outside. These mp3s were cut up here and there, they had different sound quality. The uploader announced it rather discreet, but words were spreading like fire in dry grass among the Bowiefans, and it didn't take more than a few days before most of the active members on Bowieboards had grabbed these mp3s. Then, after a while, bootleg cds started to spread. But the source of these bootlegs were the very same mp3s that were uploaded. It means that the sound quality varies alot. Still, what made these outtakes so awsome to hear for the fans, was that one could hear many of the ideas that ended up on and between the songs on Outside. Still, many of these segments was excluded from the final album, probably because nobody wanted to release this. It's interesting to listen to these especially since it's much closer to the original idea and concept than the final album was.
