    The Greenhornes-Cincy

  • some things that people might forget that have had varying levels of national impact and a brief description if you're not familiar:

The Raspberries (70s power pop phenoms from Cleveland. Influential and underrated. Damn fine.)

The Waitresses (underappreciated late 70s/early 80s new wave group that came out of the Kent/Akron Devo/Numbers Band/Tin Huey/etc scene. Generally remembered as one hit wonders for their 80s pop hit "I Know What Boys Like," or as 2 hit wonders if you count their holiday song "Christmas Wrapping," but they have a shit ton of amazingly great/weird new wave songs that will melt your fucking face off with fun. Or maybe you'll hate it. Whatever.).

Robert Lockwood Jr. (Blues legend, taught by Robert Johnson himself, spent the last half of his life in Cleveland).

Ass Ponys (Cincy area one hit wonders in the 90s world with the song Little Bastard, but always had some sort of small devoted national indie following...Frontman is now in Wussy).

The Evolution Control Committee (Mash up pioneer from Columbus...best known for the Dan Rather sound-byte collage set to AC/DC, "Rocked By Rape" that used to be an internet sensation in the early days of music downloading, but he's done lots of great Negativland-y stuff).

And speaking of one hit wonders...

Forgotten one hit wonders Sons of Elvis (Cleveland) had a minor MTV hit in the 90s with "Formaldahyde." Swank.

    Props indeed.

    Some BG bands

Here are some mainly unknown Toledo / Bowling Green area locals some past & some present:

    The Matt Truman Ego Trip
    Sarah Donnelly
    Stylex
    The Junk
    Bullet Teeth
    Fangs Out
    The Dumb Easies
    Hot Love

  • House of Heroes is one of my top favorite bands, hailing from Columbus.
Also, check out Brannigan Dastardly if you like folk music - they started in North Royalton, and the two members attend Ohio State and Ohio U. They record all or most of their music on campus in Athens.

I'm not a rap fan, but I do know also that Jesty Beatz graduated from Ohio University and played a lot of shows there. He has a track called Ohio that sounds a bit like a rap version of Ohio State's O-H-I-O chant.

There was only one catch and that was Catch-22, which specified that a concern for one's own safety in the face of dangers that were real and immediate was the process of a rational mind.
