Nicola Maria Roberts (born 5 October 1985) is an English singer-songwriter, actress, model and entrepreneur.
Roberts rose to fame in 2002 after auditioning for the ITV reality television programme Popstars: The Rivals and winning a place in the girl group Girls Aloud. The group was one of the few UK reality television acts to achieve continued success, amassing a joint fortune of £25 million by May 2009. In 2009, Girls Aloud announced that they would take a break to pursue solo projects.
Roberts announced her first single Beat of My Drum in May 2011 with the launch of her official website and Twitter account. The single premiered on Thursday, 2 June, followed by the video premiere and the song's release on 5 June. The single peaked at no. 27 in UK.
Roberts will release her debut solo album Cinderella's Eyes on 26 September 2011. Roberts spent a year working on the album with collaborators including the aforementioned Tikovoi and Diplo, as well as Joseph Mount of Metronomy and Canadian electropop group Dragonette. Mount said that Roberts "will surprise a lot of people." Lucky Day was announced as the second single on 10 July, due for a release date of 18 September.
Roberts has also created her own make-up range entitled Dainty Doll, targeted towards people with pale skin tones. She advocated a ban on the use of sunbeds by minors, creating a BBC3 documentary about the dangers of tanning.
