AMDA Thanks for create this group. Seriously. Its a shame whats going on in the "neofolk scene" I could tell lot of funny histories about "funny" experiences with "funny" people on concerts and after parties. But we know perfectly which bands and which kind of people are in these circles ;)

LydiaKitten Ok, it seems that the use of the word "neo-nazi" confuses people. Yes, it is odd to be jewish or gay AND nazi. But you can easily be jewish and fascist (just think of fow many ridiculously racist parties Isreal has), gay and fascist (many a fascist skinheads I knew where into others like themselves), fascist and black. So, being gay or jewish does not make you any less of a fascist if you talk and act fascist. And despite whatever good music they might make that I like to listen to, I don't like fascists. Not at all.

Azargled I agree with the group. Besides the music, I like the themes related to Europe (mythology, vikings, runes etc) but dislike attitudes that have to do with white pride, and think that things such fasism (not that I support communism) are just evil.

noshutdown If you can't understand the imagery of Boyd Rice and Douglas P or Death in June, then you are missing the best aspect of their art. Douglas P is a homosexual, do you really think he is a Nazi? Tony Wakefield completely renounced any ancient affiliation he had with the NF. Some of the best neo-folk records I've bought shipped from Tel Aviv.

I see people who are puzzled by the fact that Death in June and Derniere Volonte, who are admittedly rather controversial, are amongst this group's top artists. I don't really see a problem there, to be honest. I might be, for example, a libertarian socialist, but that does in no way forbid me from appreciating the oeuvre of someone who isn't. I am joining this group because of my personal beliefs, but I will not stop listening to Burzum or even these morons, Von Thronstahl. I will just not buy their records, and thus not pay them for being nasty neo-nazis. But that does forbid me from admitting the musical genius of someone who might be a racist. I mean, whatever my views on nazism, they do not make Leni Riefenstahl any worse a film-maker, or Death in June any less a brilliant band. None the less, if I met one of these people in real life, I would probably have rather heated arguments with them... SUPPORT MUSIC FUCK BIGOTRY

Somehow the topic of music entered the conversation, and she mentioned that her son liked some pop star called Rhianna (?). I'm horribly ignorant of most US music, so I wanted to share with her some traditional, yet contemporary Bosnian music!

If you stifle the expression of those you oppose (e.g., groups with views promoting violent aggression and chauvinism), then how can you maintain awareness of them? And if you lack awareness of those you oppose, then how can you intelligently oppose them? Blotting out expression obscures demographic signals that are essential for academics and state administrators. MrSeraphic You do that when someone isn't aware of his decisions. I don't think though that people who supports fascism, uniformity, militarism, sexism etc. aren't aware of what they are supporting. They know very well exactly what they're supporting and why and I'm pretty sure about that. We're not here to fight for freedom. We must be the freedom. To see people supporting those ideas is an offence and I'm protecting myself from being poisoned inside which is very important to me. My first and best weapon is consciousness. You cannot be kind to the violence. In violence you reply with violence because all of these people have violent instics and they obey only to those instics, so you acting accordingly..

hello..well its good to see that there are a lot of people who cares about how fascism is promoted by the music and the lyrics...Personally, I love neofolk and all this martial sound..but sometimes I just cannot overcome the fact that there are bands like Von Thronstahl or Arditi.. I notice Dernière Volonté among the weekly top artists. I like Dernière Volonté's music quite well. Yet Dernière Volonté's NS/ fascistic references are unsettling to me. I don't understand the lyrics, however, since I speak very little French. How Geoffroy intends these particular references is at best difficult for me to understand. Any thoughts among the Francophone members here?

Di6 also worked with Jewish musicians and have toured in Israel. Their website also states that they are not nazi and don't share their ideologies. They have a fetish for uniforms and Douglas is gay, so I don't think he would support homophobia nazis. They have also performed live with gorilla suits wearing swastikas. They ridicule fascism and I don't think anyone should take them seriously. Probably it's just for shocks and media attention.

backslashh @ JohanJello: You do realize that Douglas of Death In June has stated multiple times that he opposes neo-nazism / national socialism? Although I don't trust it myself, he tried really hard to clear his name. Neofolk I like: Forseti, Vàli, Death In June, Nest, Tenhi, etc.

ALWC I think Death In June quite possibly do hold far-right views of some kind, but I'm quite sure they aren't Nazis. Real Nazis don't work with Jewish musicians, play shows in Israel, and then put an Israeli flag up on the front page of their website for a while in a context where it was pretty clearly intended as positive- Death In June did all of these things. Claiming someone is a Nazi is a very heavy accusation- one should be quite certain of it before throwing it around.
