Not sure whether to stick this here, or the Moods and Occasions Hotdesk, so I'll stick it in both:

I'm looking for a similar level of anger and hostility to the music of Eyehategod and Today is the Day with about the same pace and deliberation of Godflesh's Streetcleaner, but something with more crunch and slightly more crushing (heavier?). Any recommendations?

JiveKitty, Swans. Their early material was obviously a big influence on Godflesh and Justin Broadrick. I don't know Eyehategod or Today is the Day, but just from how you describe what you're looking for, I still think Swans could be relevant to your interests. If not, oh well, someone else was going to suggest them anyway... :P

Material like on their albums Cop, Filth, and Body to Body, Job to Job will probably be a great place to start. Very slow and extremely heavy. Some have said that their early stuff is the heaviest music ever made. Decide for yourself... :)

Heh, Swans are number two on my top artists, but thanks, they are brilliant.

Hehe. Well then, how about Zeni Geva, or Brainbombs? (though the latter may be too tongue in cheek)

Mostly-metal: Look to Norway. Serena Maneesh is brilliant shoegaze. 120 days a little more electronic, but won a norwegian Grammy for their only album so far. Maribel is the newest band in the norwegian shoegaze scene, but maybe the closest you get Raveonettes of these bands..
Have to mention Low Frequency In Stereo as well. They play really blend of post rock and shoegaze.

  • So this might be way too specific, but I'm looking for a good compilation of French music from the 40s, 50s, and 60s. I really love singers like Édith Piaf, Bilbert Bécaud, Yves Montand, and the like. Italian music from the same time period is very much appreciated as well! And I'm not looking for artists to look into, I'm looking for specific compilations. I have some of the "Greatest Music Ever" compilations but there are too many songs from the 70s and after and on it for my tastes.

So yeah! Plzzzz leave me a shout and thank you very very very much!

    genre query

Lately I've been craving a style of dance music, or an artist perhaps, that is more aggressive, CHAOTIC (noise is good), fast, maybe a little different. I been enjoying The Bloody Beetroots something like that perhaps but faster/crazier as long as it has the same kinda sense for coming to a toe curling finish. I'm really bad with genres, with little sense for differentiating musical styles I usually tag as generally as possible so I'm not sure where to look. As a side note I've had Justice reccomended to me alot before but for some reason I'm not feeling it, not that that is particularly crazy, but its like the bad penny for me.

Try Surkin, Bobmo and Kavinsky (and if you want more, go through the former two's similar artists list), though they're not really crazier than The Bloody Beetroots.

    How about this?

  • can i get some happy guitar Pop like The Monkees and/or Vampire Weekend. ty.

  • Hi there,

    Here's one for you...

Lately I discovered the power of the jazz flirting with the avantgarde done by many instruments at the same time.

I mean something like these albums:

    Sun Ra - Lanquidity

Charles Mingus - The Black Saint and the sinner Lady

The Lounge Lizards - Voice of Chunk

John Coltrane - Africa/Brass and Ascension

Art ensemble of chicago - Les stances á sophie (although they're not that many)

Can anyone reccommend me something out of that Range?

    It would be great ;)

    Bye

Looking for some good space rock in the vein of Spiritualized and Spacemen 3.

  • Hi there,

I'm looking for female-voiced- jazzy piano ballads, just like this one:

I already looked up, if Diane Keaton released an album, well she didn't :(

But if you know anything in the same, late night-piano-new-york-bar-vein
it would be great if you could tell me....

Oh, and I would be pleased, if you could post into my shoutbox, because I'm not here that often, and so I'll get an E-Mail.

    Thanks in advance,
    Franz

    MelvinfromHell:

Blossom Dearie, Diana Krall, Diane Schuur, Stacey Kent, Patricia Kaas, Melody Gardot, Madeleine Peyroux.

And if you're looking for the coolness but not necessarily the jazziness, Judy Henske. Bonus points for the fact that she inspired the character of Annie Hall, that Diane Keaton played.
