    KILLED in CARS - Anthology

I am looking to develop something for an anthology for several reasons. When I get something more concrete, I'll share the details. For the time being, I want to know what albums and entries you think are the best on the site, and what you think would be the best stuff to include.

  • I dunno, maybe contact Massimo Ricci hah hah.

I don't get it. This guy? Never been there, but I think the timing of a Ross Bolletter or a Grocci Stellari, two basically unheard on RYM, is funny. Hmmm...

  • i find an anthology an awesome idea. something like "you should begin with this" for newcomers.
choosing is not easy, anyway. but Bolleter, i love it. got that CD (and reviewed it, in italian) back when it was just released, and it blowed my mind. made me think of a romantic Piranesi of the piano :)

I'm thinking of a section on improv (free jazz, eai, Improv, etc.), one on composition, and one on noise/drone/out there shit. Obviously can't fit everything in 25-50 pages, but a guide to the site and what it covers is possible. There are 450+ posts, so lots to pick from.

  • Paul- If you are looking for material for some kind of MP3 compilation, than you have blanket permission to use any of my tracks. Just let me know what you are interested in and I will send you the MP3- i think it goes without saying that you should make everything 320 kbps, if possible- I would want to provide the highest quality file. If you want me to suggest one of my favorite tracks I can do that too. On a related note, I am also finishing up about 30 minutes of new unreleased material that I am looking for a home for. Is this the beginning of a KIC netlabel?

I'm not sure. I don't think I have the time to do that on my own, although we have talked about it for some time. I sort of want to put a nice bow on the first 500 and see what the future of the site will be. Trying to make a sensible investment.

Thanks for the permission. I'll let you know. I think that is where it is going, btw. I'll PM once I talk to these people Saturday.

  • for composition, you ought to just use whatever albums appear on doc's atonal list.

You should put Morton Feldman in it, mainly because it was your post who got me into modern classical!

I second Morton Feldman. Plus Eliane Radigue and some Jim O'Rourke (I dare you to include the Burt Bacharach covers ...)

  • And Francisco Guerrero! I think those three main lines you suggested are good (improv, compov, otherov). Maybe you could include what's generated more hits on the site as well as the stuff that's not been as popular but which should be interesting to anyone passing by.

Another option could be to make like ten or a dozen trios of albums put together by stuff that relates them in some way. I don't know, for example, a Messiaen album with the Manfred Schoof, and a Keiji Haino one. We could make short blurbs suggesting what connects these albums and publish a trio per week or something until we've got a full 'guide' to the site. I don't know, it's more complicated than just making a compilation but it could also be more interesting. What do you think?

    Whatever.

I think that is a good idea, aero. I agree with the albums suggested - those just happen to have gotten the highest ratings and some of the highest hits. I think the text will connect the genres more than the discs (more on that later). I do think that a format (trios) idea is great, but that is divergent from what we've done, so will require a lot of thought and planning. I think I should lay out all the albums in front of me and sort them that way.

BTW, ones I think are essential are Guerrero, Hallett, stuff like that (few ratings on RYM before KiC, then lots of ratings, and high ones at that).

  • with composition, you'd need to decide whether you'd prefer featuring albums that are a bit more esoteric or the ones that represent 20th and 21st century canon.

  • for instance, 'unjust malaise' is a pretty popular one on rym now, but it definitely wouldn't be apart of any list of the most "important" releases posted onto KiC. whereas, schoenberg's quartets, while popular since getting posted, are so canonical that they may not need further highlighting.

Maybe as part of cassette, bootlegs, or unofficial releases...

  • I reckon doc's DeLaurenti review would be cool, though I can't remember if the album was on bcuw or kic originally.

Thanks, Darjeeling! Definitely good feedback there. I hit a tiny snag today, so I am going to send out a few emails and then report back on what I want for this. Stay tuned.
