    Your favorite instrumental artists

What are your favorite instrumental metal artists? List 'em here so others can get a clue what are worth checking out ;)
No need for descriptions if you don't want.

My top is (according to amount of listens)
    Buckethead.
Strange guitar virtuoso. Check out album Pepper's Ghost.
    Gordian Knot.
Maybe more prog/rock/fusion than metal. Check album Emergent
    Jelonek.
Sounds a lot like Apocalyptica, but with guitar and violin.

Bubbling under.. (new artist to me not yet on charts)
    Jeff Loomis.
    Nevermore's guitarist.

Not metal instrumental artist (but still some of you might like em.)
    God Is An Astronaut.
This band got me into post-rock. Maybe some of you like this too :)
    DJ Shadow.
Might be the only hip-hop artist I like. Has dark tone on the albums. Check album Endtroducing. STAY AWAY of album The Outsider. That sucks.

  • Buckethead! I love the Praxis albums he did with Bill Laswell.

Bulb - a guitarist with free tracks available at Soundclick - check out his stuff!! Imagine a more melodic and groovy Meshuggah - all instrumental.
    www.soundclick.com/bulb/

JT Bruce - Also, free tracks - his website is www.subjectruin.net

I'll have to check out NEverending Story and Jelonek.

Hey, self-promoting whore that I am: Please check out my own stuff - Dimaension X - www.dimaensionxblog.blogspot.com

My top is (according to amount of listens)
Chimp Spanner/Paul Ortiz (was Neverending Story) I am particular found of The Last Day and the rusty guitar that drops in towards the end.

Deathmøle Progressive death metal, post metal. Favourite Album: Long Songs

Poète Maudit – experimental black. Favourite tracks Renaissance ( Dans cet Enfer Blanc ) and Tabarnak

I don’t know what to do about Cynthia Witthoft. Is it a scam? If so, where does all the music come from? Well over 400 tracks has to come from somewhere.

Blotted Science. Very complex and technical. Never yet played all of the album in one bite. It is just too much.

Habit Of Mind – progressive: Favourite track: Song 1. And well, Song 2 comes second. The problem is that there are only those two.

Das War: Progressive/death. Heavier/bassier sound than Chimp Spanner, but in many ways many similarities.

Futant Oblivion - not really one of my favourites. He just has a large production and going though something like 1½ times yields a high play count. I have marked these tracks as the better ones:
    The View Of Everlast
    Space Dye Vest
    Etheria
    Dark Is Daylight
    Tyrant's Asunder
    Soma In Motion
    Void

Sclera: often similar to Blotted Science, just less technical.

Mastery. Trash metal. Favourite track Lethal Legacy

Reckoning Storm Experimental and orchestral parts, Album can be downloaded from the homepage: http://www.reckoningstorm.com/ Favorit: Legion of Heroes - The New Covenant

Forest of Fog – melodic black.

    (Updated Dec 5th.)

My top is (according to amount of plays)
Chimp Spanner/Paul Ortiz I am particular found of The Last Day and the rusty guitar that drops in towards the end. And SRMV WIP has such a powerful drive. Looking forward to his new CD.

Deathmøle Progressive death metal, post metal. Favourite Album: Long Songs. Freely available from http://www.questionablecontent.net/mp3/.

    Shadowcast Sun post-metal.

Again I don’t know what to do about Cynthia Witthoft. Where does all the music come from? Well over 400 tracks have to come from somewhere. Some of it is really good.

Poète Maudit – experimental black. Favourite tracks Renaissance ( Dans cet Enfer Blanc ) and Tabarnak

Cloudkicker has been tagged . The focus is on the floow of the music rather than one the guitar work.

    s.pam – progressive metal. Also a heavy post-rock.

After Chaos. Only did a few demo tracks that I have been playing a lot.

K3. No not the Belgian pop group, but the Ungarian instrumental progressive metal group. Album “Under A Spell” is great. Only bad thing is that it ruins the lastfm recommendation radio for a while with Belgian pop.

Most of these bands have been reviewed on Unknown Metal.

Exivious - fusion metal with incredible riffing and a touch of jazz. A track with the guitarist from Cynic. Really a great album to me

Continuo Renacer - very nice too. metal/fusion

Adebisi Shank - not really metal but very nice trio (bass/guitz/drumz)

Bulb - he is the guitarist from Periphery. It's incredible and very much inspired by Meshuggah's work

Don Caballero is nice but it's more math rock. I recommand album '2'

thanks for this great list. I'll check it ASAP :)

  • Bulb
    Chimp spanner
    Animals as leaders
    Cloudkicker

All of em are in some way or another related to djent, math metal & progressive metal. Great stuff
