#1 song on the day you were born?

  • #1 song on the day you were born?

Yes, I realize that the pop charts aren't exactly treasure troves of good music, and that they probably weren't that good at the time most of us were born, but this thread should be good for the lolz, if nothing else. And for you astrology buffs out there, there's even something called Popstrology that's a (mostly tongue-in-cheek) way of predicting one's life based on the #1 song when you were born. It's only for US charts from the 50s to the 80s, unfortunately, but it's still a good laugh.

Anyway, I think all international pop charts can be found on Wikipedia.

And as for me, THIS is what was sitting atop the Billboard Hot 100 when yours truly first saw the light of day (or rather, the star/moonlight of 1:01 am) on emerging in the wee hours of July 21, 1990...

    She Ain't Worth It

Yeahhh. Typical dodgy early-90s dance-pop track that I'd never even heard until I actually bothered to look it up on YouTube. If "popstrology" has any value at all, it's somewhat depressing that my "birthsong" is not only entitled "She Ain't Worth It," but is also sung by a virtually forgotten artist. That cannot be a good sign.

  • My birthday is February the 11th 1991. In the U.S. the No. 1 was the majorly cringe worthy:
Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)

The U.K. No. 1 was the slightly better:
    3am Eternal

  • My birthday is April the 3rd 1980. The U.S. Nr. 1 was
    Another Brick in the Wall

    The German Nr. 1 was
    Sun Of Jamaica

Love Will Never Do (Without You) was no. 1 on January 16, 1991.

    o hai, gag reflex.

  • August 13th 1991

Number 1 in the UK, the US and Australia, I think:

Bryan Adams - (Everything I Do) I Do It For You

    Terrible song.

UK #1: That's actually my favourite song!

The US #1 is just a typical silly love song rubbish Release Me

And finally European #1. I wanted those pants for my 5th birthday :D

  • October 1983

UK: Culture Club - Karma Chameleon
US: Bonnie Tyler - Total Eclipse Of The Heart

The UK one is a great pop single - bit of a guilty pleasure of mine, so quite happy with that. The US one....not so good!

US: Right Here Waiting - Richard Marx

Never heard of this before. Frankly a little amused to see someone named Marx at the top in the USA during this particular time.

Australia: You Got It (The Right Stuff) - New Kids On The Block

I'm so ashamed of my country right now.

Alas, he is not a communist, but a thoroughly bland soft-pop singer:

    No thank you.

October 17, 1990: I Don't Have the Heart (to Hurt You), by James Ingram

My god, I'd hate to predict my life based on this. My life would consist of bad fashion, bad jams and lots of vomiting. But at least it's happy?!

  • November 30, 1993:
I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That) by Meat Loaf.
Couldn't believe it when I found out, but its true.

Probably the most ridiculous music video I've ever seen. Though you gotta expect that from the music video's director Michael Bay. The guy that brought you such "masterpieces" like Armageddon and Pearl Harbor.

Please Forgive Me by Bryan Adams.

A sappy, sung from the heart power ballad. Classic Adams right there. Though it reached #7 on the US Billboard Hot 100, it did go for #1 in Australia.

    LOL @ above post.

Unfortunately, I Will Always Love You - Whitney Houston was #1 when I was squeezed out.
