Description :
High Hopes is written by David Gilmour and Polly Samson. It is from the 1994 Pink Floyd album, The Division Bell.

"High Hopes"
"High Hopes" was really the last one, it was written after all the other (songs) were sort of, in some form or another. I think I wrote it in July or something. It was very, very quick. It's one of those ones that works, quickly, but beautifully, almost immediately and, I came up with a tiny bit of music, just had it on a cassette, just a few bars of piano. And then I went off to get away to a small house somewhere with my girlfriend, Polly, and try and make some progress on the lyric writing. And she gave me a phrase about something about before time wears you down. And I took it from there, and...got stuck into a whole sort of thing about, I suppose, my, it's autobiographical really, I suppose I'd have to say on that one, it's about my life, Cambridge life, and my childhood, I suppose. Yeah, we came up with it very, very quickly, we wrote the words to it in, most of the words to it in a day. And then I went back to the studio, with no one else there, the minute I got back, and put a demo down of it. Did everything myself on it, and it was virtually complete in a day.
David Gilmour talking about "High Hopes" from the US radio premiere of The Division Bell with Redbeard, March, 1994.

MB: Gilmour re-convened Pink Floyd for 1994's The Division Bell. He found his co-writer in the journalist and author Polly Samson, whom he married in July that year.

DG: I cannot talk about anything past The Division Bell without crediting Polly with her help in firing me up. She has been so good for me, this person. But, we still have to deal with criticism. The Great Yoko Ono factor, I guess... I think we made some of the Pink Floyd classics in our later incarnation. High Hopes from The Division Bell, which I wrote with Polly, certainly falls into that category.
Part of Mark Blake's interview with David Gilmour in the summer of 2008 before the death of Richard Wright. The interview was for MOJO magazine.

Amen to all of the below! I never ever have to regret my avatar name, because this song will always be good, no matter what. Thanks all of you 300 members that you joined this group, the song certainly deserves it. I wonder what Gilmour would have said if he had known about it? :))

Hi everyone!!! Grettings from Mexico... This song it's beautiful: makes me wonder in the valoration on the world, the friends, the time, the slumbers, the life... I wonder how it was that created this song Gilmour, the guitar solo, what felt to the play? I shudder the skin especially when I feel sad or blue, but I reassured me and encouraged to move me forward in life... =)

I first saw the video clip of this song on Channel [V]. Oh My! I was really stunned by both the song and the clip itself. I really worn out the tape on which I have recorded this video by watching it over and over again. Then got the album itself and Wow, I felt the power and the beauty in it even more. The more I listened to High Hopes, the more I discovered it. Words cannot describe the beauty of this song, you need to feel it with both your body and soul. And yes, The Endless River, Forever and Ever <3<3<3

one of the most awesome songs in rock history! i think it was Ray Wilson who said that after writing a song like that, you might as well end your career. cause there's nothing, ever, you can do better when writing a song.

recently i watched british movie 'accident'. it's action takes place in cambridge. when characters were in the forrest i heard bells. that was amazing cause i felt like in a moment there's gonna 'high hopes' start but that was just a sound from the local church i think. i know that PF recorded their song in cambridge...that is interesting, isn't it? ;-)

For me, it would definitely have to be the one from Gdansk, though I like the one from P.U.L.S.E. a whole fucking lot, but I stick with the one from Gdansk.
