the first wave of punk-rock after me is made by these bands:
Sex Pistols, the Clash, The ramones, the buzzcocks, the Stranglers, X-ray Spex, Vice Squad, Television, richard Hell & the voivods, blondie, talking heads and so on...i guess the list is endless with bands from 1974 till 1979/1980

oh, and i forgot to mention to check all the bands from The Best Punk Album in the World...ever

  • I am limiting this to non-hardcore punk, though there was a brief period of cross-over which very few bands actually participated in (i.e. Disorder, Circle Jerks). There really are not any hardcore punk bands that should be considered "first wave" in my opinion. HC in the '80s was a different animal, and it is an even more different animal today (since it really doesn't have much to do with punk at all any more)

The Damned - early stuff only (pre-Strawberries, though there are a couple punk toons on that album as well)

Television - now labelled post-punk, but were considered punk in their time

    Sex Pistols
    Ramones
    Stranglers - early stuff only
    Avengers
    X
    Buzzcocks
Crass - not usually considered first wave, but they did have some releases in the late '70s and were very influential on later developments.

    Germs
    New York Dolls
    Johnny Thunders
    Richard Hell and the Voidoids
    Richard Hell
Siouxsie and the Banshees - early stuff only - arguably Rapture and earlier

    Cockney Rejects
    Sham 69's first album

    Runaways
Blondie - yes Blondie - but her first album only - Plastic Letters

    Adverts
    The Ruts
    Dead Boys
    Generation X

  • the Fall

the fall need to be mentioned more, don't be put off too quickly, it grows on you like cynicism, becoming infectious and addictive while spreading head pain to local radio listeners, get um back for inane loud adds/presenters.
It becomes consuming energising and even calming...
