    Edited:
    I included erroneously "Sami Saari", but they sing in Suomi, not Sámi.

    I'd take the last one off if I were you. All his songs are in Finnish. Sami is a common first name in Finland.

    Edit:
    I searched some Sámi artists for you:
    Niiles Jouni Aikio
    Amoc
    Jiella
    Wimme Saari
    Tiina Sanila
    Vilddas
    Deatnogátte Nuorat (Norwegian)
    Nils-Aslak Valkeapää - I always think of him as a poet but he originally became known as a performer of Sami jojk. Read more

    Niko Valkeapää is a Sami musician living in Norway, he's made two albums:

    * Niko Valkeapää (Duippidit, 2003)
    * Sierra (Duippidit, 2004)

    Visit his MySpace and listen to his songs!

    Sámi artists

    One that needs including would definitely be Adjágas, a young pop-yoik-duo with a few interesting influences. Good group, this one!

    EDIT: transjoik deserves a mention, too. Their music is electronic and not very traditional although they do use yoik as an element.

    By the way tartalo, what kind of research about the languages do you mean in the first post?

    The research thing: Both Wikipedia and Ethnologue mention 11 Sami languages, of which 2 are extinct and 9 living, it would be nice if someone with better knowledge about Sami languages and/or less lazy than me would classify the artists in the appropriate language.

    Welcome to the group

    Ah ok. I know that Angelit, Ulla Pirttijärvi, Adjágas, Deatnogátte Nuorat, Jiella, Niiles Jouni Aikio, Niko Valkeapää, Nils-Aslak Valkeapää and Vilddas all perform in North Sámi.

    transjoik has used at least North Sámi, Lule Sámi and Finnish in their songs, and one of their albums is a collaboration with a Pakistani singer whose name I can't remember right now. They are one of the few acts that could be best described with the term "world music".

    Then I forgot to add one artist, Sofia Jannok, who has a Myspace page with a few songs. She seems to sing in North Sámi (at least the sing titles are in North Sámi) and the yoiking style is North Sámi as well, but I really couldn't tell because of the funny accent as I'm not a native speaker. Liked her music, though. Hope this'll be of help!

    I found a couple of Sámi music related posts in a Finnish music blog, with links to a few very good downloadable albums.

    Wimme Saari + some general Sámi info

    Nils-Aslak Valkeapää

    However, as these albums are yoik which can be a very non-verbal style of singing and more like chanting (with only a few words or with simple syllables used instead of words), they are not proper representatives of the actual language of North Sámi as such. Which also kind of raises the question that, strictly speaking and if one wants to go splitting hairs, is there place for yoik artists like Nils-Aslak Valkeapää or Wimme Saari in this group due to the non-verbal nature of their music…?

    That's a good question. Strictly speaking non-verbal music would be outside the scope of this group, but we already have some artists that make instrumental music. I raised the question some time ago and would really like to hear some opinions:
