Premonition Factory (Sjaak Overgaauw, The Netherlands) is a self-taught musician, currently living in Antwerp, Belgium. Overgaauw has been writing and performing as Premonition Factory since September 2009 and released a successful debut album “59 airplanes waiting for New York” in February 2010 on his own imaginary label Longstreet Records.

The music of Premonition Factory has been classified as ambient, with a touch of experimental and avant-garde. A great deal of the music’s mesmerizing vibe draws on the fact that it is played in real-time. While some other musicians use multi tracking to layer different shades of sound, Overgaauw chooses to work with interactive live looping, which means sidestepping the usual linear production and mixing scenario, to give birth to the music as it manifests itself in real time.

Another great discovery while running the Belgian Ambient group. Sjaak’s music is Floating and mesmerizing. His music is made through Live-Looping techniques on his synths. Despite this seemingly restrictive technique the output is very dense and layered with a lot of attention to variation and details. He’s a master at looping, at making his music in real time. Both his albums are conceived as live improvisations.

It shows a great feel for melody and song structure knowing he kind of shakes the music out of his hands. It gives the live-feel back to electronic music performance.

He organises the Antwerp Live Looping Festival every year that becomes more and more a succesfull festival with great artists and for likeminded people.

I’m glad to share the stage with this kind of musicians in May on the Dylebient festival
