    APSKAFTERS # 003 - JANUARY 2012

Here we go with 3d number of APSKAFTERS.

Time ago I proposed to do a special issue dedicated to Battleship Potemkin project. Fydhws yesterday told me he would really work on that. In my opinion we have 3 choices, if everybody agree with it:

    1) I can make an article about restoration and video editing / audio sync, and all the musicians in that project (if possible) could explain the creative process behind their soundtrack part. Should be fine if one (or more than one) could write an introduction about the original movie, an explanation of how we organized and structured that job, and a review (or more reviews, so different points of view) about our version.
As it's a huge work we can decide to postpone issue to february 15th, so we have one month and a half to collect all the contributes.

    2) We could do something in the middle: keep a couple of rubrics (releases and comix, for instance), and reserve a discreet number of pages for Potemkin special. Here again we must see if it's possible to do that within january .

    3) We can go on for another issue with a "normal" Apskafters in january and - meanwhile - start to work on february special number, and maybe make it as a full Potemkin project issue.

I wouldn't treat Potemkin as one of Apskaft Releases rubric: it was a huge work, with audio and video involved, a great work in preparing and splitting soundtrack among musicians, we can't shrink it in 2 or 4 pages.

    • I need original record cover file (SimiArbeit made it) to insert in magazine cover.
    • Until now, lurholm, teelahead, fydhws and me are happy to give our contribute. Speculativism is one step beyond: already wrote his own - blazing fast guy.

  • Here's the hi-res cover:

    UPDATE

    I finished:

    • Summary (introduction to the special issue)
    • Team World Map (temporary name, to localize where are the musician in this project from - got to add a small comment on page 4)
    • Movie structure (scheme of movie chapters/scenes)
    • Management & Taxonomy (how we organized and structured this work)
    • Movie restoration (a brief explanation of what I did to enhance original clip)
    • Soundtrack details (All the artists' double pages explaining their creative process; by now there's only mine and Speculativism contributes)

I also prepared section Final Master, where I'll explain how I proceeded with video authoring and sync.
Headers and other graphics are not the final, I'm trying to finish the "core" then I'll think to embellishments.

I finished to paginate the whole magazine.

I just have to write Final Master article.

I ask if someone wants to write Potemkin album review (see pages 42-43).

In Soundtrack details I put a movie picture instead of still missing articles, but if there will be no text I won't put the page in final issue.

Not a "punishment", but if there's no text, there are no details so make no sense put a page with only an enormous movie frame, I don't think someone could take it as a "valuable information" :D.
It's just to fill the pages by now, while waiting.

After doing a lot of digging in my memory banks, I have finally managed to write a short story about my part of the soundtrack. Sent it to Hox's gmail address a few minutes ago.

    Shine those shoes, Bill!

    UPDATE

    - Added also Lurholm, Ditzky and Teelahead Soundtrack Details articles.

    - Ditzky is having his proofreading duty on what's already paginated (sent him all texts in txt format).

    - I may be wrong but I remember fydhws said he would write an article as well.

    - Still didn't hear from

    Amedis (AER20-200)
    Killmommy (Foucault V)
    Jason (awaycaboose)
    gods_pee (-soundso-)
    fingermouse_irl (mexicanvader).

  • Re: UPDATE

I asked Amedis and he said he'll write something, but he might've forgotten about it.

    I did not!

Well, in fact I did. But anyway, the text is now ready and sent to Hox as a private message.

    Sorry for being late.

    Article paginated, thanks Amedis!

    Now we miss articles by

    ► FOUCAULT V
    ► AWAYCABOOSE
    ► -SOUNDSO-
    ► MEXICANVADER
    ► FYDHWS

I already wrote them all to ask for the article, should be a form of stalking if I insist again.

UPDATE: fydhws is sending his article to ditzky (Apskafters's supervisor) this evening

As we filled exactly 48 pages, which is a standard for printed version, I decided to leave also pages with no article, and leave a big frame from Battleship Potemkin instead of text.

There is also the record (OST :D) review to do. I waited for a volunteer til now, but if nobody want to do that, I will.
