    Greed

"A notorious internal memo at Ford indicated that better protecting the fuel tank would cost about $11 per Pinto over its production run, but that it would be cheaper for the company to pay settlements for injuries and deaths from the resulting fires instead." - 5 Most Notorious Recalls of All Time

I should note that the The Stanford Prison Experiment proved that apparently normal people can turn into sadists when they have authority, so this being a company is better than it being a government. Elections can be rigged and laws can negate the "torture" label, but with freedom of speech people can warn eachother away from companies like Ford. Alternatively, if they have any sense, they can sell a "burn to death insurance" with their Pinto for a one-time fee of only $14.99!

“Brazil’s cattle industry [...] is responsible for about 80 percent of all deforestation in the Amazon. In fact, the Brazilian cattle industry is the largest single source of deforestation anywhere in the world. And deforestation in turn causes one-fifth of all the greenhouse gas emissions in the world, more than all the world’s cars, trucks, trains, planes, and ships combined.” - Lindsey Allen

Or maybe it's just lazy incompetence, like what happened in the UK here. Shame on the doctor who used X-rays instead of ultrasound and shame on the lady for not shopping around with her terrible pain. Or is that impossible with national healthcare?

    That's awfully ironic for a water-type pokemon.
