Metalheads and Anime?

  • Metalheads and Anime?

I've noticed for quite a while now that many of the people who like anime also like metal. I want to know people's opinions on this whether they think it's bullshit or... whatever. I'll admit I love both anime and metal, but is there a connection between the two? There's was even an Australian metal band called "Anime Fire"! Please let me know your opinion on this matter.

  • Anime and metal just happens to be a coincidence, Ik a bunch of people how love metal but hate anime with a burning passion and vise versa :o! I happen to like both anime and metal but there is no real connection to it. I'm guessing its pure chance, i have 2 best friends who love metal and anime. My childhood best friend loves anime too but he doesn't listen to music at all

I thought I was the weird one out here. Guess not, I adore metal and anime just as much. Yet most of my friends that like one hate the other.

Hell, I could say I hate Japanese music in general, but there are a few artists that I like.

  • Love anime. For metal.. see my top bands lol.

  • I love those bands. I remember blasting Behemoth at my cousins house to drown out our parents Kesha (Yes they listen to Kesha... pathetic) That was fun and suprisingly memorable. Nice gif by the way. Now you got Caramelldansen stuck in my head :)

Well, I don't think it has a connection, a lot of people love anime and listen to pop music or don't listen to music that much. I was watching anime long before I started to like metal =)

That is true, Pop is popular by anime fans, in Japan and USA mostly. And especialy J-pop in Japan, also in most of animes pop music is used for soundtracks, openings and endings. But still there are some metal tracks too.

Well i listen alot kinds of different metal, black, death, doom, thrash, etc but i also listen pop music too, mostly japanese, or some really old pop before the hookers took the scene, i mean dont really see anything valuable in lady gaga, jb or most of western pop, i dont even consider it pop... more like poop.

  • I like good underground hip-hop and metal as well. Though I tend to listen to metal more because the breakdowns just give me chills when they are awesome^-^ as for anime, it is true that most of them are j-pop influenced for their openings and endings but they aren't all that bad :D some of them are actually quite catchy if you listen to it enough times

yerp! I like both... metal more though hehehe.
Metal can work well in amvs and soundtracks too though :)

I have a good friend who re-introduced me to anime (after a period of prolonged neglect!) and she's into metal as well, but she also likes j-pop/rock, vgm... whatever really. I don't think it's really that important, but a lot of anime fans do seem to be into the 'alternative' (be it metal or other crazy stuff) side of music anyway.

  • I like anime and metal mucis too. And almost any kind of music (except some :)).

I have a flavor for more technical, progressive/djenty stuff.

But if it isn't either of those it's usually folk (Irish/Scottish/Viking) Stay true to the roots nahmean.

Metal to me is all about having a good groove, the vocals come secondary.

  • Agreed. Metal has to have a good sound above all else, otherwise your just listening to shitty guitar playing with half-assed vocals that could sound better or at least be muffled out by epic guitar playing c:

  • J-rock ftw!

    ~★~IN THE MIDDLE OF CHAOS~★~

  • Yeah but doesn't anything have to have a good sound to be good? I am speaking of course about real music and not western pop, people seem to like that even though it all sounds the same and everyone uses auto-tune making anyone able to do it. I look for talent and the ability to write good, memorable songs. And speaking of J-Rock, Crossfaith's new album is really good :D

  • Lol, look at my top bands. People say I have a knack for picking out good bands :3! Should deffs be a metal guru^^

  • Probably because, in most countries, people who like either one are a minority. If they're into one thing that isn't necessarily mainstream in their country, chances are that they'll be more exposed to other things that aren't mainstream in their country - hence both anime and metal (though that isn't true for all countries). I don't know if that's usually the case or not but it's what happened to me and several other people I know that like both anime and metal - and yes, for the record, I love both anime and metal. ;)

Well, i think theres no connection between anime and metal.
ok the only one i could think about is, that in some well known animes there are metal openings or endings (e.g. in Death Note or/and DMC) and so got caught with the music.

and by the way i love metal. japanese metal especially ;D and funny thing is... i got to animes after i got to japanese rock and metal. mostly it is the other way around

  • I like anime. I like death metal. It's an odd combo, but hey, it works for me as I listen to metal while making stuff in Photoshop.

Outside of AMVs though, I don't want to hear death metal in my anime. lol

    But I give my best!
  • There are more than you know! :D all metalheads should add me ;3 lmfao
