I was returning home by foot after a tedious day of work; It is half-an-hours walk, culminating in my apartment atop a small but not insignificant hill when towards the end of my walk, when the road and sidewalk were nicely sloped upwards, an aged cyclist entered my periphery heading in the same direction. The age was important, as she, while not all that elderly, was not having the easiest of time and was struggling to maintain a pace that was only slightly faster than my own stride. Not a monumental event UNTIL an authentically elderly (veteran?) in a motorized wheelchair merged onto the same sidewalk I walked, from a driveway twenty feet ahead and to my right, also headed the same direction of the cyclist and I. Also barely deviating from our pace. OH MY GOD, I actually felt an actual air of suspension for what had to be the most impromptu race I was ever in and it was completely the highlight of my day and while that may be sad, I do not care, it was pretty damn awesome.

(And for what it is worth, when the half-a-city block we crossed before reaching the apex of the hill was completed, the cyclist had beat myself and I outraced the veteran by less than ten feet apiece before the cyclist sped ahead on account of the now level ground and the veteran in the wheelchair charted right down a residential street.)
