    Deferred Procedure Calls problem

    Hi,

Recently I noticed that my computer (laptop) is under load (~50%) even if I'm not producing any load. Also it (task manager) didn't show (hidden usage) what process was using so much CPU time.

Then I ran Process "Explorer" and noticed that Deferred Procedure Calls (DPC) usage is constantly pretty high (~50%). To be sure that I don't have malfunctional hardware or driver problems I ran some diagnostics and reinstalled video and audio drivers. As I excepted then everything was fine and working.

After I ran KernRate I found that my sound chip driver (camc6hal.sys) produces such high load.

I noticed yesterday that DPC usage will increase instantly if I pause or stop my media player (foobar2000, sometimes WMP, but also tested it with Winamp), so I made some tests.

    1.
    Media player status: playing
    Last.fm client status: running

    2.
    Media player status: playing
    Last.fm client status: not running

    3.
    Media player status: stopped
    Last.fm client status: running

    4.
    Media player status: stopped
    Last.fm client status: not running

I didn't run any debugger, but seems that last.fm client (or plugin) panically tries to communicate with my sound device.

    OS: Windows XP Professional
    Sound chip: Conexant AMC

I didn't found older version of last.fm client, but it would be cool if I can test it with older version (they was working fine) of last.fm client. Then I can be really sure that isn't hardware issue.

curious... it's almost certainly going to be a hardware/driver problem. possibly agravated by lastfm as you've noticed. checked for latest drivers?

Downgraded to version 1.5.1.29527 and voila... it is working normally again... Houston we have a problem! :( BUG!

dougma, yes I did it (reinstalled audio and video drivers) and quite many times, but no help. Also I reinstalled last.fm client (version 1.5.2) least 4 times, but again - no help.

Anyway, I have been using 1.5.1 version 3 days for now and everything seems to be ok. I tried once again 1.5.2 version, but I had same problems like before.

Interesting... because according to http://static.last.fm/client/ChangeLog.txt all that's changed from 1.5.1.29527 is translations.
