  • I have the same problem : ipod not detected, last fm does nothing

    I'm using :

    An ipod touch version 1.1.4
    Itunes version 7.6.2.9
Windows XP SP2 home edition 2002 version (french)
Plugin for itunes version 3.0.0.12 and last fm version 1.5.0.24910 of course

I even tried with my old ipod : a 1st gen ipod mini 4Gb with firmware version 1.1.2 which was detected before i installed this last version.
I had the same problem with the beta version of the client

Both of the ipods are automatically synced with itunes and the old one has the function "use as a hard disk" (or something ...) activated

  • Mine has the function 'use as a hard disk' activated as well.

  • I'm using:

1: 20 GB iPod, model M9282 (4th generation or something), with firmware 3.1.1
    2: iTunes version 7.6.2.9
3: Windows XP Home Edition SP2
4: Plugin for iTunes 3.0.0.12 and LastFM version 1.5.0.24910

It's not showing up as a 'know iPod'.

  • Here's what I did to fix the problem:

First, make sure that you go into Tools<<Options and click on the iPod icon. Make sure the "Enable iPod Scrobbling" box is checked, and check the "Always Confirm iPod Scrobbles" box if you want visual confirmation. :)

    1. Plug in your iPod and let it sync with iTunes.
    2. Close iTunes, but don't disconnect your iPod.
    3. Open up last.fm and select Tools<<Get Plugin.
    4. Click on the next button, and only Windows Media Player should be shown.
    5. Click on Add.
    6. Select iTunes from the drop down list, and then click on browse.
    7. Locate itunes.exe within the browser that opens up (in most cases this will be C:\Program Files\iTunes\itunes.exe)
    8. Follow the remaining instructions and iTunes should open up on its own, sync the iPod, and last.fm should say that it is now ready to scrobble your iPod.
    9. Drink a beer and crank some MEGADETH!!! lol

    1) Nano Gen 2 v1.1.3
    2) iTunes 7.6.2.9
    3) Win XP Pro SP3
    4) iTunes plugin 3.0.0.12

Just as I finished typing that the tracks from my iPod were detected and scrobbled, so I guess that I can confirm it is working now. My iPod was plugged in for over 15 mins before I got the prompt to select which tracks should be recorded however. It is usually pretty much instant.

UPDATE: You may have to restart your computer/itunes/Windows XP in order for scrobbling to kick in. Also, it seems that sometimes I have to eject the iPod after syncing for the scrobbling dialog to come up. But it is back up and working for me. Let me know if anyone has anymore problems. :)

I've tried it but it still doesn't work :(
Actually after the plugin is installed (step 8) itunes doesn't open on it's own ... And even when i open it last fm does nothing. I've also tried to eject the ipod and restart windows. :(

  • Same problem here. My Ipod doesn't scrobble at all after the last update and it doesn't show up under known Ipods in the last fm software. The solution described by MegaVortex
doesn't work for me....can anyone help?
    I'm using:
    1.30 GB Ipod Video
    2. Itunes version 7.6.2.9
    3: Windows Vista
4: Plugin for iTunes 3.0.0.12 and LastFM version 1.5.0.24910

Hope someone has a solution for me!

Well, sadly that's not really working MegaVortex. iTunes won't start up automatically, thus cutting of the initialisation process. :S

    1. 80GB 5th Gen iPod, software version 1.3
    2. iTunes version 7.6.2.9
    3. Windows Vista Home Premium
    4. Last.fm version 1.5.0.24910 and iTunes Plugin version 3.0.0.12

Oh, and like I said in my previous post, it's not showing up in the list of 'Known iPods' as it disappeared after the update (last.fm + iTunes Plugin) and refuses to be detected again.

Well, it worked for me guys. I'm sorry. :( I'd say just keep messing around with it until it works.

ditto for me. except it just scrobbled tracks from played up to two days ago on my ipod just before the updates took effect...

80 GIG Ipod classic - new
    I tunes v. 7.6.2.9
    Windows XP
    Last.fm 1.5.0.24910/ itunes plugin 3.0.0.12

however the latest itunes plugin popped into things as it was trying to scrobble those old tracks

also at the weekend (so before any updates happened, I believe.)it scrobbled the one track where I had loads ready to scrobble. Except, that track was one I'd just played on my computer, not ipod, and was scrobbled anyway... oo. er.

and to top it off, in my last.fm "options", ipod is recogniseD twice. once as before with my codename attached, and again without my code, and with and "&AAPL0" at the end of the ipod's unique code.

    very odd.

it's a subtle blend of lateral thinking and extreme violence.

MegaVortex's way isn't working for me either.

    I use:
    1. 5th generation 30 GB iPod video
    2. iTunes 7.6.2.9
    3. Windows Vista Home Premium
    4. iTunes plugin 3.0.0.12

  • 1. 5th generation 30 GB iPod video
    2. iTunes 7.6.2.9
    3. Windows XP - Service Pack 2
    4. iTunes plugin 3.0.0.10

1: ipod touch software version 1.1.4
    2: itunes 7.6.2.9
    3: windows xp
    4: itunes plugin=3.0.0.12/last.fm version=1.5.0.24910

  • I ejected my ipod, and it scrobbled.

I noticed that when I used MegaVortex's strategy, I would go back to the plugins, and iTunes would still not be selected, only Windows media player.

  • 1. 5th Generation 30 GB iPod video
    2. iTuens 7.6.2.9
    3. Windows XP
    4. iTunes plugin 3.0.0.12

It isn't either a known iPod on last.fm.

LastFMhelper.exe won't start. And last.fm doesn't have my iPod listed, even though it said I was ready to go...

    Never mind my username.

  • My iPod is recognised by the last.fm app as "ipod/00A27001195BAE7" in the options window, and it is associated with the correct user, yet it doesn't scrobble although the "your iPod will scrobble from now on"-balloon did pop up after install.

    I use:
    1. 2nd gen. iPod Shuffle (1gb)
    2. iTunes 7.6.2.9
    3. Windows XP Professional SP2 (English 2002)
    4. iTunes plugin 3.0.0.12

Scrobbling worked flawlessly before the update. BTW my music isn't located in the standard itunes music folder. That didn't matter before the update though, but maybe it does now.

No matter where you go, there you are.

    4. iTunes plugin 3.0.0.12

same problems here, ipod is not listed in last.fm (though it scrobbles when i play tracks in itunes)

  • Edit: for no obvious reason, my iPod started scrobbling again. Followed MegaVortex's instructions, but that didn't seem to work (at first). After that I messed around a bit with the iPod settings (turned on "enable disc use", "only update checked songs") and after a little while, it suddenly started scrobbling again. I need to disconnect the iPod to make it scrobble though, and my best bet is that you need to use some sort of magic to make it work.

when you see the reactions, it's clear that it has nothing to do with the type of iPod nor with the type of OS. So it's a general problem, which needs a general solution. But as long as all the staff members are listening to music - as we speak - i can't help but feeling no urgency from them to solve this bug. Which is sad, because they get paid for things like this, don't they?
