Fri 18 Jul – Summercase 2008 Barcelona

In over 11 years of regularly attending pop festivals, Summercase 2008 was by far and away the worst organised and most blatantly commercial event I've ever attended.

The lineup was poor and got worse with the loss of Mia and Santogold, among others. A group of low-quality English pop groups (Maximo Park, Kaiser Chiefs, Sex Pistols, The Verve...) dominated the lineup and left little room for decent local or international break-through acts.

Also, the organisers' addiction to Disneyfied 1970s acts (Sex Pistols, Blondie, Stranglers...) made for further dull concerts as large groups of 20-somethings mumbled through the lyrics to Atomic, a song which was fist performed before any of them were conceived. Incidentally, Blondie's guitarist also managed to mess-up the guitar-part for Atomic, despite it being one of the most celebrated riffs in pop history. Give you a clue: it's not good enough to just play the notes in the right order... you need to get the rhythm right too.

Vie 18 Jul – Summercase 2008 Barcelona

Arribem a Barcelona divendres 18 de juliol. Desprès de adonar-nos que no tenim un mapa de Barcelona, trobem l’alberg gràcies a un policia antipàtic. THIS IS SPARTA! L'alberg és espartà, però està netíssim. Això ens consola. Nat du un rollo de paper higiènic a la maleta, que sa mare li ha ficat. Se riem molt, ji-ji, ja-ja.

Dinem a un restaurant japonès amb una cinta transportadora de menjar i a mi em dona un miniatac d’al·lèrgia, em posa rojota rojota. Tot controlat, se’m passa la reacció en quant deixe de menjar. Oh goddie.

Desprès de dormir una mica i adonar-nos que compartim pis a l’alberg amb uns europeus del nord (Olaf i Gustaf) ens anem cap al recinte del Fòrum de Barcelona, on se celebra el festival Summercase 2008.

El pitjor del festival és el sol. Barcelona és una ciutat mediterrània i el Fòrum no te ni una maleïda zona d’ombra. Estic més morena solament d’estar allà! Per no parlar dels pobres guiris, estaven tots rogets rogets. …
