    used to visit heaps of festivals and concerts in europe and in my opinion you shoulkd be lucky. this years big day out was very well organized and the line up was similar to MELT! festival, voted as europes BEST mid size festival 2010 and 2011!!! i had an awesome day and will never forget this time!

    @Bloopy That's what I mean. For the 'commercial viability' of this country, you get some decent acts to show up. Decent being in terms of high profile acts, most of which are, yes, 'radio friendly'. I'd be surprised after 15 or however many years the organizers chose high profile acts but ones NZ listeners don't like. And Dirtaewalker the crowd at Kasabian was tiny in comparison to Soundgarden, half the people at Kasabian were chanting for Soundgarden before it started. Another thing to remember is that the only reason you got any remotely heard-of bands to show up is because you're next to Australia. So regardless of how successful they are, most European/American bands wouldn't bother going all the way out here to the middle of nowhere. Perhaps harsh, but true nonetheless. Not slagging off the country, but I find it amazing how people can complain about the acts they get over here.

    @tomilis. Good one mate. I agree with you totally. Kasabian and Noel Gallagher were top notch. Sadly these 15 year olds wouldn't have a fucking clue who Noel is.

    The lineup was immense if you like radio-friendly britpop. For the rest of us it was average. Every country has abominable taste in music. The problem is that it costs nearly 2x as much to put a gig on in NZ vs the same lineup in AU. It's hard to get a lineup that's commercially viable, and BDO entirely failed to do that this year. Funny thing is that a lot more festivals in Australia fail, either due to retarded promoters or the audience having too many choices.

    NZ has an absolutely abominable taste in music. The lineup was immense for a tiny shitehole of a country this is. Just because none of you have heard of Kasabian and there were more Englishmen than Kiwis at NGHFB, its a disgrace. No wonder they're discontinuing it. I personally had a great day being able to get to the front of everything because noone showed up. Obviously nothing compared to the European summer festivals which I had the pleasure of attending, but get a grip and stop complaining about what you get here, or move to Australia. Thanks.
