A culinary festival? A music festival? A culture festival? A folk festival? Lots of people try to categorise the Malmö Festival, but who’s right? The answer is… everyone.
The truth is that the Malmö Festival is all of these things, and a little more besides. Whether you’re a pop lover or a dance band fanatic, a gourmet or a fast-food aficionado, a slapstick enthusiast or a Bergman expert, you’re guaranteed to find something for you at the Malmö Festival.
Since 1985, there’s been more of a buzz in the streets and parks of Malmö for one week of the year, as the city is filled with music stages, market stalls, food vendors and crowds of people. The Malmö Festival is the highlight of the summer calendar for most of the locals. But it’s also a highlight for festivalgoers from further afield: the Malmö Festival is Sweden’s largest city festival, and everything – apart from the food – is free!
Its success is down to local support. The city’s businesses contribute most of the funding for the festival, and each year’s event proves to be a hit thanks to this backing and the hard work put in by the 6,000 or so people who help out. The programme has grown every year, with more artists, more events and more unique features.

Äh, nu romantiserar du faktiskt Deportees lite för mycket. Sådär talangulla är inte bandmedlemmarna, dock är det realistiskt att Thomas Hedlund är Sveriges mest mångsidiga trummis.

hehe, before I moved to Sweden in 2007 I could only about 10 sentences in Swedish and because I was already obsessed with Swedish music I saw Swedish bands live & I was dying to know what singers were talking about during the gigs. It's impossible to explain in words how wonderful it is to finally understand what they say... :) Thomas was really funny! :D

Yann Teirsen's set often seemed like a noisy rebellion against his 'Amelie / multi-instrumentalist' image, even finishing with a disguised version of his famous theme. Its a shame that he is promoted as one thing when his act is now something else. Bob hund's performance was a different matter altogether - far better than I was expecting.. I don't understand a word of Swedish, but even so, that Thomas Öberg is entertaining!

klart jag håller med! Thomas Hedlund och Lars Skoglund är inte bara Sveriges utan världens bästa trummisar. Men det är inte bara Thomas som lyfter Deportees, grejen med dem är att de har en av Sveriges bästa gitarrister (Lykke Li har valt honom inte bara därför att han är snygg;), en av Sveriges bästa keyboardister (det var på P&L jag upptäckte hur fint keyboarden lät i Deportees-låtar), en av Sveriges bästa bassiter (vilken solo spelade han på Amiralen! och han är duktig på mandolin också) och sen har de en sån showman på sång som gör deras spelningar till det som fick mig att gråta på Debaser i april.

Btw, Thomas Hedlund lyfter Deportees riktigt högt med sina hysteriska och explosiva rörelser. Håller du inte med om att han är Sveriges bästa trummis?

dum_i_huvudet: till och med de tre du nämnde kan vara bra live, i rätt sällskap! men inget jag vill lyssna på i mp3-format precis. sen om de är sveriges bästa liveartister är ju sǻklart subjektivt men jag tycker inte det, dock har jag inte sett Anttila live. finns så mycket häftigare och mer energisk musik att se live enligt mig. Om du skulle stått inne i massan och sett Johnossi skulle du tyckt om dom mer tror jag. Mando Diao var inte alls bra när jag såg dem live, trots att alla runt omkring mig hoppade som galningar. Men det är verkligen inte min slags rock/pop musik.

wildwonders> och det säger du, som hatar Håkan Hellström, Markus Krunegård och Kristian Anttila... man kan hata deras musik, smaker är ju olika, men håller du inte med att de är bland Sveriges bästa liveartister? jag satt på Amiralen och tittade mot parkscenen när Johnossi spelade, så jag såg inte så mycket, men deras tråkiga och dåliga låtar gör det omöjligt för mig att njuta av deras show. Mando Diao däremot, de har några bra låtar, men efter jag såg dem live på Malmöfestivalen 2007 och deras spelning var dålig, dålig, dålig, har jag ingen respekt för dem längre.

Herrejävlar vilken pulveriserande, chockerande och smattrande föreställning Yann Tiersen bjöd på, ingen hade nog anat att han skulle förvandla hans stillsamma kärleksmusik till värsta experimentiella post-rock röran. Helt sinnessjukt, på ett mycket häftigt sätt! Dock blev man ju förstås lite besviken på att han inte spelade originalen med dragspel e tc, men man kan ju inte få allt.
