Fri 1 Feb – Somewhere Back In Time World Tour

Another year, another show. Iron Maiden were to begin their Somewhere Back in Time world tour in Mumbai on February the 1st, and with all prior indications being that they would be playing a deliciously 80s set it meant I had to go, board exams looming or not – and what a good decision that turned out to be.

1:00 pm – I have a big lunch and set off for the Bandra Kurla Complex. I was at the Bangalore show and the near-faint levels of exhaustion that I (and most others) had reached by the end was not something I wanted to go through again, and this time I had to get back home on my own, in an unfamiliar city, by public transport – I needed all the energy I could save. On the way I notice a conveniently located store, and fill two of my four water bottles with vodka - who knows, I may manage to slip it past security.

2:15 pm - The stop and Bombay traffic combined means it takes a long time to get anywhere. …

Fri 1 Feb – Somewhere Back In Time World Tour

First of all , the set list

Intro - Churchill's Speech, 'Aces High', '2 Minutes To Midnight', 'Revelations', 'The Trooper', 'Wasted Years', 'The Number Of The Beast', 'Run To The Hills', 'Rime Of The Ancient Mariner', 'Powerslave', 'Heaven Can Wait', 'Can I Play With Madness?', 'Fear Of The Dark', 'Iron Maiden'.

Encore: 'Moonchild', 'The Clairvoyant', 'Hallowed Be Thy Name'.

Now I was missing a very special function in school for this, so I was partly afraid that I might end up disappointed. No way , I would miss a thousand of those functions for the gig. Maybe there was a smaller turnout than Bangalore, maybe there was too much moshing and this wasn't the first time anymore, but I still prefer this one.I was afraid I might have to watch from the back (reached the venue 1:30 hours after the gates opened ) but all was good as I ended up 6th row centre thanks to some of the moshing and stuff that was going on.
