Description

Laibach on Stage at 8:30pm no Support

VENUE HAS NOW MOVED TO VILLAGE UNDERGROUND:

Village Underground 54 Holywell Lane EC2A 3PQ London, UK

other details remain the same.

Please note, this is a 16+ show.

From the start Laibach has developed a Gesamtkunstwerk – multi-disciplinary art practice in all fields ranging from popular culture to art.
Since its inception, the group was associated and surrounded with controversy, provoking strong reactions from political authorities of former Yugoslavia, and in particular in the Socialist Republic of Slovenia. Their militaristic self-stylisation, propagandist manifestos and totalitarian statements have raised many debates on their actual artistic and political positioning.

Although starting out as both an art and music collective, Laibach became internationally renowned foremost on the music scene, particularly with their unique cover-versions and interpretations of hits by Queen, the Rolling Stones and the Beatles. After the break-up of Yugoslavia in 1991, Laibach continued mostly within the realm of popular music, while remaining a point of reference in terms of artistic cultural criticism.

The British press declared them the most dangerous group in the world; while on tour in America, a New York radio station introduced them as the group that abolishes states and creates new ones. They were even banned in Yugoslavia for several years by an official decree. In some parts of Europe their performances still evoke fear and because of ideological threats, they were already refused entry into the U.S. Nevertheless they have had four major tours across the North American continent, and have long lost count of the number of tours across Europe. Since its beginnings in 1980, the group has had nearly 1,000 concerts worldwide and sold over a million albums.

Curfew is 11pm.

Tickets for this show will be on sale Thursday 21 November at 10AM.
