From a mysterious research facility in California to the stages of theatres and festivals across the globe, Zappa Plays Zappa is prepared once again to respectfully expose Australian fans to Frank Zappa’s extraordinary achievements in music!

Dweezil Zappa: Guitar

Scheila Gonzalez: Saxphone, Flute, Keyboards & Vocals
Scott Thunes: Bass*
Billy Hulting: Marimba, Mallets & Percussion
Jamie Kime: Guitar
Joe Travers: Drums & Vocals
Ben Thomas: Vocals
Chris Norton: Keyboards

*ZPZ resident bass player Pete Griffin recently left the band on his own terms. Zappa alumni, Scott Thunes, has been announced as their fill-in until, at least, the ‘new-guy’ has all the music down. Unsure as to whether we’ll get Thunes or not, but for now at least, there’s nothing to say we won’t!

UPDATE (JAN 26, 2012) - Scott Thunes explained to me, via his personal Facebook, that he will not be attending the Australian tour. He was only given 20 odd dates throughout February, and after that it’s up to the « new guy ».

He played more than just those three albums the two times I've seen him. How about actually giving him a chance rather than being some elitist? Shit man you're 17, you shouldn't be shunning artists.

I'm sure he won't ruin it for people who are only interested in Joe's Garage, Shei k Yerbouti, and Apostrophe. But no doubt he will for us fans of Zappa's 'more interesting' (better) music.

Trust me, he doesn't ruin anything. I've seen Zappa Plays Zappa twice now, probably going to see them again. Dweezil is an amazing guitarist and fully capable of playing Frank's music and the young musicians he has assembled are outstanding, plus he'll usually bring guests from Frank's original crew.

I'm not sure, I don't want Dweezil to ruin Zappa for me...
