CLOUD CONTROL

From being awarded with the critically acclaimed Australian Music Prize (The Amp) to a personal request to support Foo Fighters, Australian four-piece Cloud Control have had a triumphant year; crowned with the UK release of their album, ‘Bliss Release’. This collection of quirky, harmonic psyche-pop, has been met with rapturous critical acclaim over here as well as at home, picking up rave reviews in Q, The Times and The Guardian.

Cloud Control are set to release ‘Gold Canary’, one of the standout tracks from their debut album, as a single on 15 August, and then will embark on a 14-date headline tour, stopping at Birmingham’s The Rainbow on 10th October, for a must-see show.

“There are more hooks in ‘Bliss Control’’s thirty-nine minutes than in Captain Birdseye’s entire fleet.” - Clash Music

“FUSING psychedelic leanings with a pop sensibility, Cloud Control’s debut LP Bliss Release is a sublime album. It has a joyous energy reminiscent of the Beach Boys, full of jangly guitars, thriving bass lines and vocal harmonies so sweet you could spread them on a crumpet” - The Australian

BIG DEAL

Big Deal are an American boy and British girl duo who bringi together electric fuzz and acoustic sheen, ambitious songs weaved around lyrics of adult compromise and teen angst. They both sing, they both write, and they both play live, creating a tender, razor sharp noise. In the summer of 2010, they got tired of plugging things in, wearing ear plugs and waiting around. They then decided to start a band together, and with that, commenced writing and recording in their bedrooms.

The result is a clutch of songs that are structurally sparse as they are emotively rich, sweet and seductive as they are jagged. With ‘Talk’, the tension between the two perfectly illustrates the push-pull of relationships while, on the flipside, ‘Locked Up’ could be one of the most raggedly affecting love songs this year, with the pair proclaiming “I’m a mess/ I’m a wreck/ but you wouldn’t know/ cos I’m at my best/ when I’m with you”. This single is but the first step in Big Deal’s plan for the year, with the pair having recently signed to Mute, through which they will release a full-length album later this year.

EMPIRE

Empire formed in early 2010 due to the lack of decent music around at the time combined with the classic teenage urge to get in a band. It very early on became clear that this wasn’t going to be a standard schoolboy band set for nothing but clichés and became serious within a month. Prior to their formation, Toby Paige and Jack Slater had been constructing hits in their bedrooms and this quickly became prolific. They had met Adam through college and had known Alex Osman from an early age and spent just 6 months preparing when they were ready for their first gig.

Ever since, the prolific songwriting and frequent performances have continued to receive wide acclaim and a following as a product of the lads growing into a tight, impressive unit projecting songs with real meaning and honesty. Empire are proud of their routes and are essentially honest and original. .
