Quick, staccato review:
Ageing crowd. Diehard fans. Terrible, South African (?) duo on acoustic guitars equipped with a 3 chord portfolio. Left for the pub; sinking feeling. Returned feeling unoptimistic. Ultravox take to the stage. Hadn't given thought to what they'd look like. They looked old (no surprises there; they ARE old). Cheers from the audience. Ploddy start with Passing Strangers (?). OK. Every track from that point on got better. Midge Ure more axeman than keyboard dummy. Mr X could have been embarrassing, but was hypnotic instead. Visions In Blue and Lament, very good. Vienna, as classic as it ever was. Dancing With Tears and Love's Great Adventure, faithful 80's stalwarts. Hymn and Sleepwalk, my personal favourites, generating goosebumps. Billy Currie, synth maestro and violinst. Culminating in the epic crescendo drumming of The Voice. A very respectable, nostalgic performance.
