Kicking off our top 20 are London-based synth-pop duo La Roux. They stormed the UK in 2009, with singles 'Quicksand' and 'In For The Kill' getting heavy rotation throughout the summer. Frontwoman Elly Jackson became an ice-queen pin-up and has been touted as the inheritor to Annie Lennox's cold crown, embracing androgynous pop while appearing on billboards and posters throughout Europe.

La Roux's career started with under the radar remixes and releases on Kitsune before the debut dropped in June. Touted by music bloggers and journos on web and print, many were waiting for the pair to flop, but storming single 'Bulletproof' proved them wrong and paved the way for a summer of attention on the festival cicuit. La Roux will be on tour long into 2010, starting in North America in January before playing throughout Europe.
